The hype around the film courtesy the super success of its prequel, Baahubali: The Beginning and the fact that everyone wanted to know the answer to the question of the decade – ‘Why did Kattapa kill Baahubali?’, made everyone flock to the theatres to watch the film, thus enabling SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus to rake in a huge amount and become the first Indian film to earn in excess of Rs 500 crore through its Hindi version.

# PK

Aamir Khan’s PK was the first film to enter the coveted Rs 300 crore club and it was all because of the actor’s class act, the novel storyline revolving around an alien and his trysts with the cultural dogmas in India along with a really good screenplay that enabled the film to earn such a huge amount of money when it released in 2014.

Box office collection report: Why Cheat India takes an average start; Fraud Saiyaan and Rangeela Raja are washouts

Here’s how Why Cheat India, Rangeela Raja and Fraud Saiyaan have started off at the domestic box office!

Emraan Hashmi’s Why Cheat India, Arshad Warsi’s Fraud Saiyaan and Govinda’s Rangeela Raja were the major films that hit the screens this week. While all of them had low buzz before release, Why Cheat India was a film that we were looking forward to watch! And though it got decent reviews, the film has taken off on a very average note. On the other hand, Fraud Saiyaan and Rangeela Raja have got poor reviews. Apart from that, they have washed out at the box office too! It is not us, but the trade that is giving us this information. In fact, they mention to us that Uri: The Surgical Strike will steal the show and rule the box office in its second weekend.

Talking about this week’s releases, exhibitor and distributor – Akshaye Rathi mentioned to Cine Blitz exclusively, “Why Cheat India is the pick of the lot. It has taken an average opening, recording only 10 – 15 per cent occupancy in the morning shows. Fraud Saiyaan and Rangeela Raja had occupancies below 5 per cent. Uri: The Surgical Strike, on the other hand, is performing better and will continue its reign at the box office.” What do you guys have to say about this revelation? Share with us your thoughts in the comments section below!

Looking at the occupancies, we guess Why Cheat India will rake in Rs 2 – 3 crore on day one. On the other hand, Fraud Saiyaan and Rangeela Raja might collect less than Rs 1 crore at the box office. All three films need to buckle up for the weekend and need to see decent spikes to survive. In the meantime, stay tuned to Cine Blitz as we get you all the box office collection updates of Why Cheat India, Fraud Saiyaan, Rangeela Raja right here.

Box office predictions: Manikarnika to take a massive opening, while Thackeray will start slow

Kangana Ranaut’s Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi and Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s Thackeray are all set to clash at the box office on January 25

Kangana Ranaut’s Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi is all set to clash with Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s Thackeray. The two movies have set up a box office battle over this Republic Day weekend (January 25). And while we are keen to see both of them, we also want to know which one will emerge triumphant? Will it be Manikarnika or Thackeray? The fact that both of them are biopics of revolutionary Indian leaders has got everyone excited, including us! The buzz around both the film seems high, but looks like Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi will be the one taking a massive opening at the ticket window. Thackeray, on the other hand, will start off slowly at the domestic box office.

It’s not us, but the box office trackings that reveal this to us! Super Cinema’s forecasts and predictions are generally bang on and their latest update have left us stunned. According to them, Manikarnika will open to a day 1 collection of Rs 13 – 15 crore, which is massive for such a film, that too on a non-holiday Friday. Obviously, with Republic Day on the next day, there will be a major spike and it will end up with a massive first weekend collection. Thackeray, on the other hand, will only be able to rake in Rs 2.75 – 3.50 crore. Yes, it will benefit from the January 26 holiday, but the opening weekend collections won’t be massive.

Clearly, Kangana’s Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi will trump Nawazuddin’s Thackeray at the domestic box office. But, what do you guys have to say about this? Share with us your thoughts in the comments section below! Also stay tuned to Cine Blitz as we get you all the updates about Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi, Thackeray and their box office collections right here.

With six films releasing on the same day, Let’s take a look at this week’s lineup…

January 18 releases

The New Year’s good times for Bollywood began from the first month itself, with URI:The Surgical Strike releasing in the second week, and going on to earn the numbers that it has. It was the best start the year could have. January 18, which is this Friday, is going to be a melting pot for releases and the first week with the maximum releases of this year so far.

This Friday, there are six films releasing together. Namely, Why Cheat India, The Lift Boy, Fraud Saiyaan, Bombairiya, Rangeela Raja, and 72 Hours. Starring Emraan Hashmi and also produced by him, Why Cheat India is a take on our education system and also the cheating that takes place at various levels in exams. The film which was initially supposed to release on January 25 was pulled back to January 18. Fraud Saiyaan is an Arshad Warsi and Saurabh Shukla starrer, a story about a con who marries different women and lives off their money. Bombairiya is a dark comedy starring Radhika Apte in the lead along with a huge ensemble cast. Debut director Jonathan Augustin‘s slice-of-life film The Lift Boy talks about a coming of age story. 72 Hours is a war-drama and Rangeela Raja is a comedy film with Govinda in the lead. Yes the platter is packed to capacity with so many films, but the quality is at risk. Judging and picking out from the trailers, we can’t honestly bid for many out of these, so individual numbers may initially be affected.

With these six releases this week, it is going to be fun to see the reviews and see who comes out as the winner. The major clash is of course, between Why Cheat India and Fraud Saiyaan, but the competition is between all of them. What we are most excited about is the clash awaited in the next week, which is January 25, when Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi and Thackeray will release together. The year 2019 has already begin with clashes, hits and lots of films releasing together, let’s see what the year has in store ahead.
