The Lion King box office collection day 1: Disney’s animated film takes a marvelous start in India
Both the English and Hindi versions of The Lion King have taken a flying start at the box office in India
Disney’s animated film – The Lion King has hit the screens today (July 19). And looks like it has taken a marvelous start. Not only are the people loving it and appreciating it, but it has set the cash registers ringing at the box office too. The photo-realistic remake of the 1994 cult classic, The Lion King has been released in India in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu version. In fact, Shah Rukh Khan and his son Aryan Khan have also dubbed for the Hindi version. So not only is there a nostalgia factor associated with this film, but there is star power too! And all this has ensured that the movie will take a fantastic start at the box office.
Talking about its start at the box office, Akshaye Rathi (exhibitor and distributor) revealed to us exclusively, “The Lion King has taken off pretty well. It should rake in Rs 10 crore plus on day 1, which is fantastic for such a film.” He even added that the film has got a good response from the audience. Not only has the Shah Rukh Khan factor helped the film, but also its superior content.
Check out Shah Rukh Khan’s promo for The Lion King right here:
In fact, both the English and Hindi versions of The Lion King have started off well at the box office. As Akshaye added, “The screens between the English and Hindi versions have been divided equally. But the Shah Rukh Khan factor is obviously playing its part. He has a loyal fan following and he hasn’t had a release in a while! So that will surely give The Lion King a push as people flock to theatres to see what he and Aryan Khan have been able to deliver. The Hindi version is also written phenomenally well by Mayur Puri, who had also written The Jungle Book (2016). I heard it is very humorous and entertaining.”
As we mentioned, nostalgia has also brought in the audience. As Akshaye revealed, “The Lion King (1994) was a rage during its time. It was a cult movie and everyone loved it. The people who had seen it back then are now taking their children to see the movie. So nostalgia is surely playing a part in the film working at the box office”. Looking at the current trends, The Lion King is headed for a Rs 30 crore plus weekend. In the meantime, stay tuned to CineBlitz as we get you all the news and updates about the film right here!
