Amitabh Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu’s Badla has hit the screens today (March 08). And the much-awaited film directed by Sujoy Ghosh has opened well at the ticket windows. Despite releasing alongside Hollywood superhero film Captain Marvel, Badla registered 30 per cent across India during the morning and afternoon shows. Though this is not huge, considering the limited release and the fact that Badla is a niche film, the opening occupancy is indeed decent. But how well will it perform going ahead? And how much will it earn on day 1 at the box office? Well, to know that and more we spoke to our trade expert – Akshaye Rathi (exhibitor and distributor). Read on to know what he said.

Talking about the opening occupancy, Akshaye revealed to us exclusively, “Badla has started well considering the kind of film it is! Particularly in the multiplexes and the metros it is doing really very well. In the morning and afternoon shows, it registered occupancy of 25 – 30 per cent. Some places it has even reached 40 per cent too. But we need to understand that Badla doesn’t cater to the mass audience. It caters more to the class audience, which generally goes to watch the film post the evening as they are working through the day. So expect Badla to grow by the evening shows.”

However, Akshaye feels that the thriller might have to battle it out with Captain Marvel in the coming days. As he added, “The audience for Badla also caters to Captain Marvel. Hence, there will be a divide, especially amongst the younger lot. It will be an interesting battle.” Taapsee Pannu and Amitabh Bachchan’s Badla has had a limited release in only 900 – 1000 screens. So don’t expect huge collections. As Akshaye predicts, “It should earn Rs 2.50 – 3 crore at the box office on day 1. But it all depends on how it picks up in the evening shows.”

Produced by Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment, Badla is inspired from Spanish film The Invisible Guest. Well, if you have already watched the film then share with us your review in the comments section below! Also stay tuned to CineBlitz for more Bollywood news, updates and gossip!
