Kangana Ranaut’s Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi and Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s Thackeray clashed at the box office today (January 25). And while the former has started off well, the later was slow off the blocks. Both the films had incredible buzz before release, but with Thackeray having a niche appeal, we knew this was going to happen! According to our trade expert, Manikarnika has performed very well across India, while Thackeray has opened well in Maharashtra. Pan-India, Thackeray has performed in a very disappointing manner and will need a major boost.

Talking to Cine Blitz exclusively, Akshaye Rathi (exhibitor and distributor) revealed to us, “Manikarnika and Thackeray have performed decently, with Manikarnika coming out on top. Kangana’s film has opened to a pan-India occupancy of 35 – 40 per cent. Thackeray, on the other hand, has managed 40 per cent only in Maharashtra. Across India, it has been as low as 10 per cent, which needs to improve.” But Akshaye suggests things will get better. As he added, “Both the films are getting good reviews from the public. So expect them to see a spike in terms of footfalls and collections by the evening and late night shows. Clearly, Manikarnika and Thackeray will end up with good collections on Day 1.”

Both, Manikarnika and Thackeray, are biopics on legendary leaders of India. They even star fantastic actors like Kangana Ranaut and Nawazuddin Siddiqui respectively. Both of them have been praised for their stand-out performances. But the films do lack in different departments. Have you seen either of the films?
