Gully Boy review Alia Bhatt Ranveer Singh

Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh’s Gully Boy released on Valentine’s Day (February 14) yesterday. And as we had told you, it started off with a bang. The Zoya Akhtar directorial registered a phenomenal opening occupancy of 70 per cent across India. By the evening and late night shows, it had grown. This enabled Gully Boy to rake in Rs 19.40 crore at the box office on day 1. That’s huge! Considering the film had a massive buzz and was released in 3,000 screens, the movie was expected to earn in the same ball park. And that’s what it did!

Our trade expert – Akshaye Rathi (exhibitor and distributor) had mentioned that being Valentine’s Day and with such an interesting subject along with the huge buzz would help Gully Boy to earn close to Rs 20 crore on the first day itself. And he was bang on! Akshaye even mentioned how the success of Raazi and Simmba in smaller towns had also enabled Alia and Ranveer to build a following in the Tier Ii and III cities. That has given Gully Boy a major advantage too. In fact, with the weekend just kicking in, we are sure that the Zoya Akhtar film will rock at the box office.

From our reckoning, Gully Boy can earn Rs 75 – 80 crore over the 4-day extended weekend. How it holds on the first Monday will determine its lifetime run at the box office. But surely, it can be a Rs 200 crore film. Anyway, if you have seen the film, share with us your review in the comments section below!
