Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh’s Gully Boy has hit the screens today (Valentine’s Day, February 14). And looks like it has taken a phenomenal start at the domestic box office. We say this with confidence because the Zoya Akhtar-directorial has managed to register a 70 per cent opening occupancy across India! Releasing in around 3,000 screens across the country, Gully Boy is getting some fantastic reviews as well. Be it the critics or the movie-goers, everyone is raving about the movie. And our trade expert – Akshaye Rathi (exhibitor and distributor), is expecting fireworks at the box office.

Talking about Gully Boy‘s opening, Akshaye reveals to us exclusively, “It is terrific. The massive opening has been driven by the multiplexes in the cities, but having said that, it is doing good amount of business everywhere. To give you an example, the early morning shows across Mumbai were housefull. So Gully Boy‘s opening has been outstanding in the metros. In fact, in the Tier II and III towns it is pretty good. Overall, the average opening occupancy across India is 65 – 70 per cent. And in multiplexes, it is more than 80 per cent.” Clearly, Ranveer – Alia’s film has started off with a bang!

Produced by Tiger Baby Productions and Excel Entertainment, Gully Boy has been made on a budget of Rs 30 – 45 crore. It is decent for such a film. However, recovering the cost won’t be an issue at all! Considering the fantastic opening occupancy it has registered, we expect the movie to rake in Rs 20 crore on day 1 at the domestic box office. Going forward, the positive word of mouth publicity will help it grow. And with that, Gully Boy will earn Rs 75 – 80 crore over the opening 4-day weekend. Clearly, it will have earned profit by the first weekend itself. In the meantime, stay tuned to Cine Blitz for more Bollywood news, gossip and updates!
