We revealed to you yesterday (April 09), how nearly Rs 750 crore is riding on the Hindi film industry during the second quarter of 2019. With films like Avengers: Endgame, Bharat, Kalank, De De Pyaar De, India’s Most Wanted, The Zoya Factor, Student of the Year 2, Kabir Singh and Drive releasing, expectations are sky high. However, how much will the industry earn in the second quarter of 2019? Well, our trade expert – Akshaye Rathi (exhibitor and distributor) and our other trade sources have made some bold predictions.
Talking about the upcoming films, Akshaye revealed to us exclusively, “The second quarter has the Lok Sabha Elections, IPL and even the Cricket World Cup. This will surely have an impact on the Hindi film industry and its business. This is because all these events will keep the nation busy. The attention will be diverted away from the movies. So they will have a negative impact. But having said that there are several films that can still do pretty well. They will certainly pump in the money into the industry.” He predicts Bharat, Avengers: Endgame, Kalank and De De Pyaar De will be the biggest money spinners during the second quarter of 2019. But how much will each one earn?
Box office collection predictions for the top 10 releases in India during the second quarter of 2019:
Sr No | Movie | Collection (in Rs crore) |
1 | Kalank | 180 |
2 | Avengers: Endgame | 300 |
3 | Student of the Year 2 | 90 |
4 | De De Pyaar De | 110 |
5 | India’s Most Wanted | 60 |
6 | Mental Hai Kya | 60 |
7 | Bharat | 300 |
8 | The Zoya Factor | 60 |
9 | Kabir Singh | 60 |
10 | Drive | 50 |
Total | 1350 |
Looking at the above chart, you can clearly see how the top 10 releases during the second quarter of 2019 will rake in nearly Rs 1350 crores or more at the domestic box office. If you add the collections of the other 15 – 20 releases, trade expects the Hindi film industry to rake in Rs 1500 crore at the ticket window, which is huge. If you remember, during the first quarter, the industry raked in nearly Rs 1000 crore. So this would be a 150% growth, huge isn’t it? What do you guys have to say?
