Kalank box office collection day 5: Varun – Alia’s film has a disastrous first weekend

Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt, Sanjay Dutt, Madhuri Dixit, Aditya Roy Kapur, Sonakshi Sinha’s Kalank was one of the most exciting films of the year. However, looks like it has disappointed one and all. Not only the audience, but the trade as well! After a massive opening day collection of Rs 21. 60 crore, the movie dipped and never recovered. With that, Kalank has had a lackluster opening weekend at the domestic box office! In fact, on day 5 (Sunday), the movie hardly saw any growth. It raked in just Rs 11.63 crore to take its overall box office tally to Rs 66.03 crore. With a five-day extended weekend, a massive buzz and 4000 screens at its disposal, a lot was expected from Kalank.

In fact, the trade was expecting Kalank to rake in at least Rs 100 crore in its first weekend at the box office. However, it is nowhere close to it. If it will earn Rs 100 crore in its lifetime run or not remains to be seen! With a budget of Rs 150 crore, the movie is not going to be profitable at the box office. Directed by Abhishek Varman, Kalank is a family, revenge, period drama. The length as well as the complex and slow screenplay might have lead to the film’s downfall, but no one can deny that it has a heartwrenchingly beautiful story!
