Akshay Kumar – Parineeti Chopra’s Kesari had a fantastic first weekend at the box office, raking in Rs 78.07 crore. In fact, with that, it became the highest opening weekend grosser of 2019. It also beat Gold to become Akshay Kumar’s highest first weekend grosser yet. However, on its first Monday, the movie saw a massive decline in terms of footfalls and collections. Kesari raked in Rs 8.25 crore on Monday (day 5) to take its overall tally to Rs 86.32 crore. Though this is a decent amount, the fact that it saw a massive dip in collections, especially in major markets, is concerning.
Kesari will now have to rest on the merit of its content and the word of mouth publicity. The movie has been praised by one and all. In fact, people across India and the world have loved the brave story, the performances by Akshay Kumar and Parineeti Chopra as well as the action sequences. The critics have also been impressed! In fact, our critic – Suguna Sundaram was blown away by the movie and its screenplay. With so much positivity and no competition, we are sure Kesari will fly through this week. And with Notebook and Junglee releasing next week, we think the histrionic will continue raking in the moolah.

By the looks of it, Kesari should cross the Rs 100 crore mark by this week. But will it be able to breach the Rs 150 crore mark in its lifetime run? Well, that remains to be seen. Directed by Anurag Singh, the movie chronicles the brave Battle of Saragarhi, where 21 Sikh soldiers battled against 10000 Afghan tribesmen. What did you think about the movie?
