Kesari box office collection day 6: Akshay – Parineeti’s film slows down; mints Rs 93.49 crore

After taking a huge opening on day 1, Akshay Kumar and Parineeti Chopra’s film Kesari went on to become the biggest opening weekend grosser of 2019 by raking in Rs 78.07 crore. While the film took full advantage of the extended weekend, on Monday the Akshay starrer, however, witnessed a sharp decline in its collection. The film should have registered two-digit figures but instead, it minted Rs 8.25 crore on the crucial Monday. As for Tuesday, the historical war drama again saw a slight drop as it collected Rs 7.17 crore and thus bringing its total six-day collection to Rs 93.49 crore in India.

Kesari, which was touted as one of biggest releases of this year, should have technically entered the Rs 100 crore club over its first weekend. Considering the film arrived on a national Holiday and had a four-day weekend, the collections aren’t as great as they should have been. Nonetheless, Kesari is still performing better and is eyeing to hit the century. Once that happens, Kumar will have 10 films to his credit in the Rs 100 crore club which we think is an achievement in itself. So far the film has had a smooth run at the ticket windows as there was hardly any competition. But this week, two new films are releasing – Notebook and Junglee – and that could heat things up at the box office.

Directed by Anurag Singh, Kesari chronicles the brave Battle of Saragarhi which was fought in 1897 between 21 Sikh soldiers and 10,000 Afghan invaders. Jointly produced by Hiroo Yash Johar, Aruna Bhatia, Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, and Sunir Kheterpal, the war drama stars Parineeti Chopra but in a special appearance. Next up, Akshay will be seen in Housefull 4 alongside Kriti Sanon, Bobby Deol, Riteish Deshmukh, Kriti Kharbanda and Pooja Hegde.
