Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota, starring Radhika Madan and Abhimanyu Dassani, is one of the most exciting films of the year. However, with it being Abhimanyu’s debut movie and Radhika’s second, expectations at the box office should not be kept high. In fact, with a low buzz in the trade means that it might not set the box office on fire with the numbers. But it can surely win hearts! Our trade expert – Akshaye Rathi (exhibitor and distributor) also feels the movie will take a slow start. But it will surely, grow over the weekend.
Talking about the buzz, Akshaye Rathi revealed to us exclusively, “Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota is interesting in its niche place. With Kesari coming along, which a huge bulk of people are going to watch, will affect it. However, the movies don’t cater to the same audience. While Kesari is massy, Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota caters to the urban, cream audience. The markets are different too. But with a niche release, it will take a slow start.” With 400 – 500 screens to its credit and a low buzz, Akshaye says it is tough to predict the movie’s day 1 collection. However, trade sources reveal to us that it can earn Rs 0.75 – 1 crore on the opening day.
Directed by Vasan Bala and produced by Ronnie Screwvala, Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota will also face opposition from Akshay Kumar’s Kesari. However, we are sure the story will win the audience over. For those of you who don’t now, the film is about a man who doesn’t feel any pain. Our reviewer – Aakanksha Naval-Shetye says it is a must-watch. This positive word-of-mouth publicity will surely help the film.
Kalank box office collection day 3: Varun – Alia’s film fails to cross the Rs 50 crore mark
Kalank box office collection day 3: Varun Dhawan – Alia Bhatt’s period drama fails to see a massive jump even on a partial holiday!
Varun Dhawan – Alia Bhatt’s Kalank was one of the most-anticipated films of the year. In fact, the buzz was so high, that even on a partially-working Wednesday (Mahavir Jayanti), the period drama opened to a collection of Rs 21.60 crore on April 17. However, it failed to live up to everyone’s expectations. In fact, it saw a massive decline on day 2, raking in just Rs 11.45 crore. With day 3 being another partial holiday (Good Friday), everyone expected Kalank to see an upward trend. However, it could rake in just Rs 11.60 crore. With that, the film failed to cross the Rs 50 crore mark in the first three days, which everyone expected it to!
The trade is stunned! Day 3 being a partial holiday, everyone expected it to see an upward trend, but it failed to grow. The period drama just remained steady. Now only a fantastic Saturday and Sunday can help Kalank boost the numbers. This is because of the fact that the movie was made on a massive budget of Rs 150 crore (cost of production and publicity and advertising cost). With such a huge investment, the movie should ideally make in excess of Rs 200 crore at the box office to break even, but it looks difficult. Kalank won’t even touch the Rs 100 crore mark over the extended 5-day opening weekend.

Directed by Abhishek Varman, Kalank got mixed reviews from the critics. But the audience did like it, and hence, everyone expected it to perform well at the box office. Let’s hope it recovers over the weekend and posts a respectable total. Kalank box office collection day 3 early estimates: Varun, Alia, Sonakshi, Aditya’s film sees a slight upward trend
Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditya Roy Kapur’s Kalank continues its run at the box office!
Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditya Roy Kapur, Madhuri Dixit and Sanjay Dutt’s Kalank released on April 17 (Wednesday). It instantly opened to a humongous collection of Rs 21.60 crore on a partial holiday (Mahavir Jayanti) on day 1. Day 2, being a working Thursday, saw a huge decline, as the film raked in only Rs 11.45 crore. But there’s nothing to worry about, as on day 3, according to early estimates, Kalank has seen a slight upward trend. In fact, from trade reports, we hear that Abhishek Varman’s period drama has earned somewhere between Rs 12 – 14 crore on day 3. This means, Kalank will have raked in Rs 47.05 crore (approximate estimate) at the box office within three days.
Obviously, again day 3 was a partial holiday (Good Friday) and hence, Kalank saw an upward trend. And while the figure is decent, the movie missed out on crossing the Rs 50 crore mark. A lot was expected from the film, especially with the grandeur, screenplay and star-cast. The audience reactions were also decent and the word-of-mouth publicity managed to stir the audience to go and watch the movie. However, it needs to see a massive upward trend over the weekend to be able to become a profitable film at the box office!

From what we hear, the budget of Kalank (cost of production and publicity cost) is Rs 150 crore. So it needs to earn much more to break even at the box office. We expect it to collect at least Rs 80 – 85 crore over the extended five-day weekend. But how much will it earn in the lifetime run? That remains to be seen. In the meantime, share with us your review of the film in the comments section below! Also stay tuned to CineBlitz as we get you all the news, updates and gossip about Kalank right here.
Kalank box office collection: Alia, Varun, Sonakshi, Aditya’s film sees a drastic drop on day 2
Kalank box office collection day 2: Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditya Roy Kapur, Madhuri Dixit, Sanjay Dutt plunges at the ticket window!
Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditya Roy Kapur, Madhuri Dixit, Sanjay Dutt’s Kalank took a fantastic opening on day 1. Raking in Rs 21.60 crore, the movie became the highest opener of 2019. However, it saw a drastic drop at the box office on day 2. Yes, the period drama could only manage to rake in Rs 11.45 crore on the second day! If you calculate, you will realise that the movie saw a decline of nearly 50 per cent in collections, which is a cause for concern. Though the two-day collection of Kalank stands at Rs 33.05 crore, which is decent, the dip is alarming!
Obviously, the working Thursday caused Kalank to plunge at the box office. But a partial Good Friday holiday on day 3 (today, April 19) will enable it to capitalise and regain its momentum at the box office. We expect it to earn anywhere between Rs 15 – 20 crore on day 3. With that Kalank might be able to cross the Rs 50 crore mark in just three days. But will it be able to rake in Rs 100 crore plus at the box office in the extended five-day weekend? Well, that remains to be seen. In the meantime, share your thoughts with us about the dip in collections in the comments section below!

Directed by Abhishek Varman, Kalank has got decent reviews from the audience. But the mixed reviews from the critics is an area of concern! But then again, we are sure the positive word-of-mouth publicity and the fact that there are no other films running in theatres, will make movie-goers go and see the movie. However, we will have to keep an eye on the film’s progress! So stay tuned to CineBlitz for more Bollywood news, gossip and updates.
