Bollywood saw several films release in 2018 including the likes of Ranveer Singh’s Simmba, Shah Rukh Khan’s Zero, Aamir Khan’s Thugs of Hindostan, Ranbir Kapoor’s Sanju, Salman Khan’s Race 3, Deepika Padukone’s Padmaavat and so on. The opening-day collection of any film is important as it kind of determines which path the movie will take over the first weekend. A good opening-day is very important for a great weekend and in turn, a fantastic lifetime collection at the domestic box office, though this might not the case on all the occasions. So, each of the releases that we saw last year attempted to create a pre-release buzz to get an amazing start on Day 1. While some succeeded, others failed. But which movie is the highest opening day grosser of 2018?
It is none other than Aamir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan’s Thugs of Hindostan that released during Diwali this year. Next up on the list is Sanju, which got a Rs 34.75 crore opening even though it released on a non-holiday weekend. Surprisingly, Race 3, Gold and Baaghi 2 make up the top 5 list of highest first day collections of 2018; with Padmaavat, Simmba, 2.0, Zero and Satyameva Jayate following suit. Check out which film earned how much on Day 1 during 2018 right here!
With a massive Day 1 collection of Rs 52.25 crore, Thugs of Hindostan is also now the highest all-time opening day grosser. But, can any Bollywood film beat this Day 1 collection in 2019? Well we will have to wait and watch out. In the meantime, watch this space as Cine Blitz gets you all the latest updates from the world of Bollywood and box office right here.

Ayushmann Khurrana’s Article 15 completes successful 50 days at the Box Office!
As Article 15 completes a successful 50 days at the Box Office, it’s a testimony to the fact that the film going audience of this country is getting more and more aware of what good content means and they’re growing more appreciative of it.
Ayushmann Khurrana is riding high on success and how! The very talented actor whose first release of 2019 was Article 15, created a huge wave amongst the citizens of the nation owing to the mind-numbing portrayal of the caste hierarchy our country faces till date. It was a stare-in-your-face film whose realistic storyline and execution left everyone gasping at our country’s reality and Ayushmann Khurrana, who had never donned the role of a cop, was lauded for his performance!
The Anubhav Sinha directorial is a stark reminder of the deep-rooted caste hierarchy of our country that still persists and the norms related to it alongside the aftermaths of not obeying the set rules. The movie is the most realistic investigative drama which is inspired by real-life incidents. From Dalit rapes to other atrocities, Article 15 gets a hold of the social nerve of the society which presents an alarming situation that the country is dealing with.
The national award-winning actor whose last year’s releases- Badhai Ho and Andhadhun both won National awards, has come to be known for his choice of different and brilliant scripts, which stand different from what the industry’s norm of ‘pure commercial entertainment’ has been. Ayushmann Khurrana has also emerged as the sole brand to promote ‘quality over quantity’ and ‘content over commerciality’.
Article 15 was one such film which was so different, so hard-hitting, and relatively dark and yet it saw a great footfall in the theatres. As it completes a successful 50 days at the Box Office, it’s a testimony to the fact that the film going audience of this country is getting more and more aware of what good content means and they’re growing more appreciative of it.
