Simmba, Zero, Thugs of Hindostan or Race 3 – which is the highest opening day grosser of 2018?

Bollywood saw several films release in 2018 including the likes of Ranveer Singh’s Simmba, Shah Rukh Khan’s Zero, Aamir Khan’s Thugs of Hindostan, Ranbir Kapoor’s Sanju, Salman Khan’s Race 3, Deepika Padukone’s Padmaavat and so on. The opening-day collection of any film is important as it kind of determines which path the movie will take over the first weekend. A good opening-day is very important for a great weekend and in turn, a fantastic lifetime collection at the domestic box office, though this might not the case on all the occasions. So, each of the releases that we saw last year attempted to create a pre-release buzz to get an amazing start on Day 1. While some succeeded, others failed. It is none other than Aamir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan’s Thugs of Hindostan that released during Diwali this year. Next up on the list is Sanju, which got a Rs 34.75 crore opening even though it released on a non-holiday weekend. Surprisingly, Race 3, Gold and Baaghi 2 make up the top 5 list of highest first day collections of 2018; with Padmaavat, Simmba, 2.0, Zero and Satyameva Jayate following suit.
