Tiger Shroff, Ananya Panday, Tara Sutaria’s Student of the Year 2 was one of the most-awaited films of the year. And while it started off well at the box office, it hasn’t been able to maintain a high tempo. In fact, after getting mixed reviews, the movie has just raked in a decent amount over the first weekend. After earning Rs 12.06 crore on day 1, SOTY 2 saw marginal growth on day 2, collecting Rs 14.02 crore. On day 3, the movie saw a dip, earning just Rs 12.75 crore. Obviously, phase 6 of the Lok Sabha 2019 Elections as well as the IPL 2019 Finals affected the business. But we expected better! Overall, Student of the Year 2 has Rs 38.83 crore in its kitty at the end of the opening weekend.
Though this is decent, the fact that it had stars like Tiger Shroff and newcomers Ananya Panday and Tara Sutaria in a sequel to a hit film (Student of the Year – 2012), we expected more. Student of the Year 2 needs to have a decent first week to salvage itself and for it to be considered a hit. With films like De De Pyaar De and John Wick: Chapter 3 releasing this Friday (May 17), we are sure it will face some stiff competition in its second weekend.
In the meantime, check out our Student of the Year 2 review right here:
Directed by Punit D Malhotra, Student of the Year 2 also stars Aditya Seal. The movie has got mixed reviews from the critics as well as the viewers. And hence, we didn’t see a drastic spike or decline over the weekend. What was your take on the movie? Share with us your thoughts in the comments section below!
