Tiger Shroff made his debut back in 2014. Since then, he’s had just five releases, the sixth one (Student of the Year 2) is releasing on May 10. Though these aren’t many films as compared to his contemporaries, Tiger is still killing it at the box office. And it’s not us, but our trade expert – Akshaye Rathi (exhibitor and distributor) who is telling so! Yes, he’s had his ups and downs at the box office. But his popularity amongst the masses is unparalleled. In fact, his under-performing films have also earned a decent amount at the box office.

Talking about Tiger Shroff’s box office performance, Akshaye reveals to us exclusively, “What he is doing is absolutely phenomenal. In his generation, I do not see any actor who is out and out massy as Tiger is! We see Varun Dhawan doing films like Sui Dhaaga: Made in India and October in between all his mass entertainers. If you look at Ranveer Singh, he is also in another space. So are Sidharth Malhotra, Arjun Kapoor, etc. Most of the actors in his generation are doing films that cater to the metros and somewhat to the towns beyond that. Tiger, is at the other end of the spectrum and he has built this niche for himself.”

Analysis

Taking a look at all his releases till now, Heropanti (Rs 55 crore), Baaghi (Rs 80 crore), A Flying Jatt (Rs 40 crore), Munna Michael (Rs 35 crore) and Baaghi 2 (Rs 165 crore), you will realise that he has grown a lot. In fact, with Rs 375 crore in his kitty (from just five releases), he’s averaging at Rs 75 crore a film, which is quite amazing. However, it is his popularity amongst the masses that will make him a superstar.

As Akshaye points out, “For the mass audience, amongst this generation, Tiger is one of the most popular stars, besides Ranveer Singh and Varun Dhawan. It makes sense for every star to find his niche and be the king of his kingdom. And that is something Tiger has done very well. The fame that Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn and Suniel Shetty enjoyed as action stars in their hay days, has been occupied by Tiger. And that’s terrific I guess. He is running a race where he is the only guy who is running it. He’s found his niche really well. I really wish he can capitalise on it over the years and be an absolute superstar of the masses.” Let us know what you think in the comment section below and stay tuned to CineBlitz for more updates.
