Indian actors, filmmakers, social media activists like Konkana Sen Sharma, Anurag Kashyap, Shyam Benegal, Mani Ratnam and 45 others have sent out a strongly-worded letter to PM Narendra Modi today (July 24). The letter comes in the wake of the rise in mob-lynching cases. For the uninitiated, several mob lynching cases have been registered across India recently. In fact, the letter mentions how Muslims, dalits and other minority caste members are being targetted. Additionally, they are even alleging that ‘Jai Shri Ram’ has now become a war cry!
Clearly, the celebrities are shocked by the events. And hence, they wrote to the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi. They are hoping that the India Prime Minister, who has criticised such incidents in the Parliament, acts upon this matter. In fact, the celebs are also feeling that people who criticise the current government are being tagged as ‘anti-national’ or ‘urban naxal’. This is scary for them and they want their freedom of speech. In the letter, they mention that they are genuinely concerned about the fate of the country as Indians.
