Anees Bazmee makes a candid confession!

Comedy is a difficult genre and cracking the code to make people laugh is not an easy thing. But looks like director Anees Bazmee has cracked this code perfectly. The filmmaker has successfully helmed many successful comedies including Welcome, No Entry, Thank You and many more. The director is currently working on his next film Pagalpanti with an ensemble star cast. And as he settles down for an exclusive chat with CineBlitz, the filmmaker shares his take on the genre.

Known for his direction and writing, Anees Bazmee began his journey in the early ’90s and while sailing through all the genres, he made his mark in comedy and is a brand today. When asked about the secret of his success with the genre, the director said, “I think the most difficult genre is comedy. I have written 50-60 films, directed 15, but till date whenever I write a comedy film it is difficult. Comedy is basically tragedy, someone’s tragedy is a comedy for others. I have struggled a lot, worked with many people, and in different departments, so the journey itself has taught me a lot.” The director further added, “I don’t endorse buffoonery level of comedy, I like adding punchlines in a serious situation and that is more comic than anything.”  In the course of the interview Anees spoke about many topics, he also spilled beans about his new favourite film in the recent times. He also told us why Anil Kapoor is a constant in his films and reveals how the dialogue ‘aloo lelo’ from Welcome became the most famous punch-line. Watch the video below:
