Kriti Sanon, who made a successful debut in Bollywood with Heropanti, has been in the industry for a few years now. While the actress didn’t have any release in 2018, currently she is busy promoting her romantic comedy film LukaChuppi along with her co-star Kartik Aaryan. This year the talented actress will also break her girl-next-door image as she will be seen in Ashutosh Gowariker’s historical drama Panipat. With interesting films lined up, the 28-year-old is certainly happy and feels blessed to have met people who saw talent in her rather than anything else. As Kriti gears up to wow the audience with her latest film Luka Chuppi, she gets into a quick conversation with us and talks about her films, box office numbers and much more.

Do you feel the world of Luka Chuppi is similar to Bareilly Ki Barfi?

Considering that both have small towns then yes, maybe. But it’s very different otherwise in terms of story, characters and the dhun of the film. Bareilly also showed village and Luka Chuppi too has but this is more colourful. There I was in a de-glam avatar and here Rashmi (on-screen character) is slightly girly and modern. She is liberal, gutsy so you might feel the essence of the small town but everything else is different for both the films.

From playing girl-next-door to reprising a historical character in Panipat, isn’t it a big shift of image on screen?

I don’t know why is an image created so fast but I think there are people who see you beyond what you are wearing and how you look in the film to the acting capability. Hair-makeup and costume really change people and I have done modeling and seen myself in different outfits. I really look different every time. I am fortunate enough to have met people who have seen the actor in me rather than how I look on screen or otherwise. Ashwini saw me as Bitty before I saw myself in that character. Now Ashu (Ashutosh Gowarikar) sir saw me as Parvati Bai which I don’t know how. It would be nice that I am doing this role and I want to surprise everyone with something that I haven’t done. Everyone gets that one chance to break that image.

How seriously do you take your characters?

I think you need to be true to your character. If I am playing a village character, I need to have freckles on my face. Even while I am shooting, I don’t like to touch up again and again. I just like to keep it the way it is but sometimes I have to because it is important how it looks on camera. To make my character shine more, I like to keep it real and always looking glamorous is not needed if that is not the demand of the role.

You debuted with Telugu film so would you like to do regional cinema again?

I have done two before and I have always said this that if time permits, I will definitely go for it. I think Telugu has great content and good cinema and so many times even we remake it in Bollywood. So if something that comes my way excites me then I’ll do it.

You’re doing a period film like Panipat for the first time. Do you feel any pressure or is it difficult?

I don’t feel emotionally it’s difficult but physically, yes it is. We never do fighting and action usually so while doing that it does take a toll and I even have some bruises due to that on my arms and legs. But that’s a sweet pain as it gives you a lot of satisfaction as an actor when you put so much of effort and it turns out to be nice on screen.

Do you get worried about box office numbers?

Nowadays everyone is pressured by the box office numbers and even I want my films to do well. So that pressure is there but I don’t think so we should stress so much on it. What also matters is that if you enjoyed making the film or not. Apart from that, these days’ films are making huge numbers so there is competition but its fine.
