Vipul Amrutlal Shah talks about extensive research process for ‘Human’

Vipul Amrutlal Shah is currently co-directing his highly-anticipated medical thriller titled ‘Human’ featuring Shefali Shah, Ram Kapoor, Kirti Kulhari, Seema Biswas and Vishal Jethwa (Mardani 2 fame) amongst other renowned actors from the television and Bollywood fraternity. ‘Human’ is an emotional drama about the underbelly of the human drug testing and the world of medical scam and the shooting of the web show is in progress.

For Vipul, ‘Human’ is a subject which is very close to his heart and the successful director-producer has been leaving no stone unturned to make it exactly the way he and his co-director Mozez Singh and their team has envisioned it. Together, they had also done extensive research for the web show before it went on floors.

Talking about the same, Vipul Shah reveals, “Human was written as a film three years back and that time we made around 28 drafts of the script. Later, we felt that the film format was not enough for a subject like this because if we were focusing on the medical world than the personal relationships and conflicts were not getting enough prominence and vice versa. Then I met Mozez (Singh) and I gave the script to him to look at it with a completely fresh perspective. And that’s how he, Ishani and two other writers wrote ‘Human’. Mozez was the head of the writers’ team and also co-director of the show.”

“As far as the research process is concerned, we went to various medical drug testing camps to see how they are administered and also understood the processes and what kind of security measures are taken to ensure that the drug testing is safe for people. We also met victims and subjects, doctors and the pharma companies. So, we have done extensive research along with Mozez’s team too, as they also met a few whistleblowers, social activists, patients, pharma companies and doctors. And that kind of double research has resulted in the script of Human that we have today. I would say it was a very detailed process which went on for around two and a half years,” adds Vipul.

‘Human’ also features a plethora of talented actors from the television and film industry including Mohan Agashe, Aditya Shrivastava (CID & Super 30 fame), Atul Kumar (Talwar fame) and Sandeep Kulkarni (Dombivali Fast fame) among others. The web series ‘Human’ which went on floors in January this year, will be co-directed by Vipul Shah and Mozez Singh.
