Sridevi death anniversary 9 iconic movie looks of the actress

On this day (February 24) last year, Bollywood lost one of its most beloved female actresses – Sridevi. Exactly a year ago, everyone was shocked when news about her sudden demise was flashed across TV screens. Sridevi was undoubtedly one of the most forward-thinking actresses of her time. She was the only one who took risks and it paid off as she went on to become a megastar. So, on her first death anniversary, let us walk down the memory lane and glance through some of her most iconic on-screen looks to celebrate her larger than life persona.

# Nagina (1986): Sridevi’s corset fitting choli and lengha with blue coloured lenses was quite the craze in 1986. This could very well be the first possible experimentation with coloured lenses. And we are sure it would have been a really bold decision for the actress back then. But she carried it off with oomph and panache, leaving everyone gasping for more.

# Mr India (1987): The unforgettable chart buster Kaate Nahin Katte from Mr. India instantly made Sridevi the seductive siren. Her iconic blue chiffon saree with a matching bindi was really loved by one and all.

# Chalbaaz (1989): Playing a double role in the movie, Sridevi effortlessly switched from her cute and simple avatar to the sassy and chic avatar. From printed sarees, suede business suits to satin off-shoulder dresses, her looks were way too modern for that time. In the movie, Sridevi even sported a transparent raincoat for a song sequence. And today, it is a trend that can even be seen on fashion runways.

# Chandni (1989): This was a monumental movie for Sridevi in every aspect. However, it was the actress’ simple look in the movie which became a rage back then. Her styling was so loved that many women ended up copying her. Especially her white chiffon saree look with matching bangles and a bindi became quite popular.

# Lamhe (1991): This film saw Sridevi in her trademark matha-patti with her Rajasthani influenced outfits. Her look was a hit also because of her flawless make-up. Those big bold eyes highlighted by using lots of mascara were epic, don’t you agree?

# Khuda Gawah (1992): Playing a warrior princess in Khuda Gawah, the film set in Afghanistan saw Sridevi donning heavy embellished costumes with a lot of accessories. Her look was completed with capes, twisted turbans and heavy jewellery making her look the part.

# Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja (1993): Turning into a chameleon for this film, Sridevi shuffled between multiple over the top outfits that made her unrecognisable. This allowed her to play the swift thief with ease.

# Laadla (1994): The movie introduced Sridevi in a never seen before bold avatar. Playing an ambitious go-getter businesswoman, her performance was matched by a incredible look. Sridevi was seen nailing the power-dress look with well-fitted business suits or tucked in printed top with a big belt clinching her tiny waist. Interestingly, this look is back in trend today. But back then it was quite a fashion-forward look for Sridevi.

# English Vinglish (2012): The movie saw Sridevi make her comeback as a simple housewife, who is seen enrolling herself in English classes in America. The actress’ look was all about beautiful sarees that became an instant style statement. From cotton to taser to synthetic sarees, she carried them off with utmost grace. Her look was completed with basic makeup and braided hair, bringing out the beauty we know Sridevi to be.
