Michael Caine: Gangs

Audible, a leading provider of spoken word entertainment recently announced the launch of its new Audible Original Podcast – Michael Caine: Gangs. This follows the success of Heist with Michael Caine the critically acclaimed Audible Original Podcast released in June 2020 (The Times: 5*, “hiring Michael Caine to narrate a podcast about heists is as good an idea as it sounds”).

Michael Caine: Gangs is a gripping and richly detailed, six-part series telling the remarkable stories behind real-life gangs. Perfectly hosted by Academy Award winner Sir Michael Caine CBE (The Italian Job, The Quiet American, Batman Begins), the new Audible Original series explores tales from across the globe, from London’s infamous Kray twins, the Mafia in Sicily, to America’s Jesse James all before returning back to London to tell the story of real life ex-gang member Tracey Miller and discuss what life is like inside modern street gangs. Throughout Caine seeks to reveal the hidden realities behind the myths, discovering if and how a can a gang truly be ‘successful’?

  • Episode 1: The Krays – Michael Caine begins his journey close to home in 1960s London, when he met the capital’s most infamous twins. How did they command so much respect?
  • Episode 2: Griselda Blanco – One of the most obvious measures of a gang’s success is their wealth, and few have accumulated more than ‘The Black Widow’. Michael tracks the rise and fall of one of Columbia’s most dangerous criminals.
  • Episode 3: John Gotti –  To maintain a successful enterprise a gang has to appeal to new recruits. No one did this better than the Italian-American Mafia and its most famous boss, John Gotti.
  • Episode  4: The Mafia – In this episode, Michael travels back 100 years to discover the surprising origins of the Mafia in Sicily. Michael reveals how the Cosa Nostra was born from ancient traditions, political upheavals and… farming lemons?
  • Episode 5: Jesse James – Success can be measured by how well a gang is remembered, and even loved. Few are as famous, or as popular, as the ‘all American hero’ Jesse James. But is this adulation justified?
  • Episode 6: Tracey Miller – Michael returns home to London in the 90s to tell the story of real-life ex-gang member, Tracey Miller. What’s life like inside modern street gangs, and are they really more violent and prevalent than ever?

Michael Caine, host of Michael Caine: Gangs, said: “There is an undeniable public interest with gangs, which has had people transfixed for decades, influencing films, books and culture. In this new podcast series, I uncover the remarkable real-life stories from gangs across the globe, including my personal experiences in 1960’s London. Throughout Gangs, we determine whether the truth is stranger than fiction with these famous cases in history, as well as the present day realities of gang life.”
