Fatima Sana Shaikh, known for taking on diverse roles throughout her career, has consistently showcased her versatility and talent in the Indian film industry. She has worked with some of the most esteemed directors, earning a reputation as a director’s actor, as she has a natural ability to seamlessly fit into any role envisioned for her by a director.
In a conversation earlier this year, Shaikh discussed her approach to selecting roles, quoting, “When I’m selecting a project, I go by my instincts. I see what is exciting me through the roles as a whole, from the script to the director. When I’m prepping for a role, I dig deep into the script and take as much as I can from the text that I have. But the characters don’t stay with me. I am out of the character the moment I step out.”
Shaikh added that the diverse roles she has taken in her career have significantly contributed to her growth as both an actor and a person. “Such diverse roles help because you become empathetic towards other people. People who are not from your world, or industry. You get empathy, sensitivity, and acceptance,” she explained. As an actress, she has the opportunity to step into the shoes of various characters in unique situations, allowing her to relate to experiences that might not be encountered in one’s day-to-day life.
