Amidst the #BoycottSurfExcel tag trending on Twitter, various Bollywood celebrities have come out to defend the detergent commercial. Yes! Surf excel came out with their new commercial for Holi and it didn’t go down well with the Twitterati. Let’s go through it from the beginning.  India is the land of diversity. From religions, caste, colour, shape, physicality, spirituality everyone is unique in their own way.  One way of bringing it in all together beautiful is during festivities. One such campaign has been initiated by Surf excel for their upcoming Holi special. This is the extension of their current ongoing campaign ‘daag achhe hai’. The film titled #RangLaayeSang (colours bring togetherness) is definitely another heartwarming story coming from the house of Hindustan Lever.

Conceptualized by Lowe Lintas, the ad film showcases a young girl egging kids in her neighbourhood to throw colour and water balloons on her on the festive day of Holi.  After getting drenched in colour and hit by all the water balloons by the kids, she calls out for her friend. Turns out her friend is a young Muslim boy who steps out in a white kurta is now ready to go for his prayers without the scare of getting dirty on the way. So this little girl has cleared the way for her friend to attend his payers without him getting messy. Hindu festivities beautifully merged into Islamic tradition was brought to light with this ad. The message being Friendships are above all such differences. While it received backlash comedian Vir Das, actress Konkona Sen Sharma and host-model Gauahar Khan had to defend their stand on Twitter, after they tweeted in support of the commercial but faced some backlash on the same. Check out their tweets here:

While some were not so impressed by the ad like director-actor Vivek Agnihotri and South Indian actor Siddharth

Cannes 2019 fever is on! And while we all are busy spotting our favourite celebs killing it on the red carpet, a very rationalist comment was made on Hina Khan’s appearance by a leading magazine’s editor. The editor posted a picture of the actress and said, “Cannes has suddenly become Chandivali studios kya?” This sure did not affect much as she immediately came up with a savage reply where she said, “I was persistent, I’m constant and I will be efficient again and again. Don’t know where I belong, don’t know if I have to, as the Place doesn’t define me! Because as always I will work my a** off and I will make my own PLACE. My promise, a proud outsider from my Chandivali studios.” But her friends from the industry decided not to end it at just that. Celebs like Farah Khan, Salman Khan, Arjun Bijlani, Nia Sharma came out in her support.

Where Salman Khan said, “I don’t know if the Editor wanted to say that #Cannes has become Chandivali or Chandivali has gone to #Cannes2019.” Farah Khan also appreciated the bold move that Hina took and praised her stand. Check out the tweets right here:

After the brouhaha, the editor finally took to social media and apologised, informing that his comment was drastically misconstrued. Hina accepted the apology and moved on to slay the Cannes world.

While this matter came to an end here, it raised many questions about Television star’s credibility. Hina Khan’s debut film Lines premiered at the Cannes Festival 2019 and if that is not a reason to celebrate then what is? Well, at least we are glad that the issue was resolved gracefully. Stay tuned to CineBlitz for more such updates from the world of Bollywood.
