After PM Narendra Modi, will EC ban Mamata Banerjee’s biopic?

Political films have been trending currently due to their traction during the Lok Sabha Election season. PM Narendra Modi was up for release, but the Election Commission banned it. Will the biopic on West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee face the same brunt?

The sudden increase in political films and web shows in Bollywood have been no coincidence, as the Lok Sabha elections process progress and parties seek to appeal to their target voters by whatever means necessary. A biopic on Manmohan Singh was made earlier this year which didn’t do too well, in addition to the release of PM Narendra Modi’s biopic which is on hold, by order of the election commission. As the makers await a green signal for the film’s release, another biopic has been confirmed to be in the making, based on Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee’s life. The filmmakers even got the coveted clearance of the Censor board and are very happy about it.

While talking to a leading online portal, the director Nehal Dutta claimed that his film is not a biopic, but a story inspired by the TMC supremo’s journey in life. “Unlike Modi’s film, ours is not a biopic. You can say we have been inspired by her (Mamata Banerjee). She is an iconic figure. It is an emotional story about women’s empowerment.”

Let’s see if this film too gets shelved or if it actually makes it to theatres as the election season continues. For more such updates on Bollywood stay tuned to CineBlitz.
