After his rather intense roles in films like Padman, Gold, and 2.0, in 2018, Akshay Kumar is back to doing a genre that he is a self-confessed fan of – horror comedy! The action star is said to be rather excited about this new film which is a remake of the hit South film Muni 2: Kanchana, better known as Kanchana. Directed by Raghava Lawrence, the film is a sequel to Muni and was said to have caught Akshay’s attention years ago when the actor had first seen it. Since then, Akshay has been keen to remake it in Hindi. And now with the film finally on, we have learnt that the horror-comedy may be titled Lakshmi.

It was in 2007 that Akshay had done a horror-comedy Bhool Bhulaiyya and it is after 12 years that he is revisiting the genre. A source says, “The makers are keen on the title Lakshmi.” If Akshay sticks to the South film’s original plot, then he would also be seen playing a transgender in the possessed avatar. While the makers are mum about this, insiders reveal that knowing Akshay he would be up for the risk. There’s also buzz about Katrina Kaif being roped in for a film with Akshay, so that film could either be Rohit Shetty’s cop caper Sooryavanshi or this horror comedy. How excited are you about Akshay revisiting horror-comedy and about Katrina pairing up with him? Do let us know in the comments below.

Meanwhile, Akshay is busy with his soon-to-release film Kesari. The film’s gut-wrenching trailer has been getting an amazing response since it was released recently (February 21) and Akshay’s turn as a Sikh warrior is being highly-appreciated. Directed by Anurag Singh, the film is based on the Battle of Saragarhi (1897) that saw 21 Sikh soldiers fight against 10,000 invading Afghan tribes. In the film, Akshay plays Havildar Ishar Singh under whose leadership the battle was fought. Produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, Cape of Good Films, Azure Entertainment and Zee Studios, Kesari is slated to release on March 21. Meanwhile, stay tuned to CineBlitz for all updates on Akshay Kumar and Bollywood.
