Amitabh Bachchan launches Boman Irani’s new production house – Irani MovieTone in grand fashion

Boman Irani has always surprised us with his choices! Whether it was giving up a steady job to turn photographer or entering Bollywood post 40. So, it hardly comes as a surprise to learn that he’s now getting into film production. Yes, the actor has launched his own production banner – Irani MovieTone and unveiling this new ambitious project was Amitabh Bachchan. After working in the industry for over two decades now, the 59-year-old actor is ready to try his hands with different aspects of film-making. He has shifted gears with plans to produce and direct films under his newly launched production banner – Irani MovieTone. However, rest assured, he is not hanging up his acting boots.

The actor invited Alexander Dinelaris, the Oscar-winning screenwriter of Alejandro G Inarritu’s Birdman, for a day-long screenwriting workshop today (January 24). Boman says, “Over the years, I decided to learn the craft by reading books and I met Alex in New York. He is like my brother. We discussed my script and he encouraged me.” Thanking Alex further, the actor-turned-producer added, “When I met Alex and his friends, I learnt so much. It is important that we share someone of his craft, intelligence and simplicity here. I am glad he agreed to come here.”

Boman also mentioned that he has been busy writing a script, which will hopefully go on floors soon. He said, “At the moment, we are putting our name out there. We have Alex to help young writers. The first production hopefully is the one that I have written but if something else comes, then (we’ll focus on) that. The idea is to develop good stories and if they are on the page, we will have good cinema on screen.”

The actor has often worked with filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani, having starred in his films like Munna Bhai series, 3 Idiots, PK and Sanju. When asked about the sexual misconduct allegations on Hirani, Boman refused to comment and stayed away from this topic altogether.
