The Accidental Prime Minister actor, Anupam Kher rang the opening bell at the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) earlier today.  The stock exchange will be advancing trading hours to align their timings with that in major Asian markets. He was there to mark the inaugural bell for the new year.

The actor is doing promotional rounds for his latest release The Accidental Prime Minister– a political drama, which is based on the book by author Sanjaya Baru. The book is the author’s memoirs of his four-year association with Dr. Manmohan Singh during his tenure as leader of the nation.

The Prime Minister may have been accidental, but the release of the movie is certainly not. With a very strategic release date, it captures an important juncture of Indian politics in a time where the country heads to the polls in the first quarter of 2019. Maybe this is a not-so-subtle way of starting the conversation around current politics in the country.

This is not the first time Kher has been invited to ring the bell at a stock exchange. Last year, in September, Kher, along with his then co-star Janet Montgomery, rang the opening bell at the NASDAQ at Times Square in New York, when he was out promoting his film ‘New Amsterdam’

The actor also has another movie coming up this year titled, Mungilal Rocks, slated to release in March.

The Accidental Prime Minister is out in theatres today.
