At the spectacular press meet of PS1 at the PVR Icon in Mumbai, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who also looked spectacular in her white sari was brimming with happiness when she revealed the fact that her ten-year-old daughter Aradhya was extremely excited as well as mesmerized when she had visited her mom on the location of the shooting of her film PS1 and Mani Ratnam had graciously offered her the pleasant task of yelling Action, a privilege none of the actors of Mani Ratnam have been given till date, according to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Ash added that Aradhya had still not gotten over her excitement to date.

The movie is based on the epic period novel written by iconic writer Kalki Krishnamurthy. The five-volume novel Ponniyin Selvan narrates the story of Arulmozhi Varman, who eventually became Rajaraja Chozhan. It is a historical fiction novel by Kalki Krishnamurthy, written in Tamil. The novel was first serialized in the weekly editions of Kalki from 29 October 1950 to 16 May 1954 and released in book form of five parts in 1955.

Ponniyin Selvan 1 chronicles the story of Arul Mozhivarman (Jayam Ravi) and his ascent to the throne of the Chola kingdom against a coup. The story will be narrated from the point of view of Vallavaraiyan Vandiyadevan (Karthi), a messenger of Aditya Karikalan (Vikram), who travels through the southern kingdoms to pass on the messages between the Cholas.

Ash who plays the role of queen of Pazhuvoor -Nandini in the film PS 1 adds that each role of an actor is different and spate by itself and one does not compare the roles at any cost. “Getting an opportunity to essay such remarkable characters is by itself very great. A filmmaker like Mani Ratnam does all the initial hard work by writing the narrative as well as the form of a film and we artistes do the best that we can in order to give his vision a form and a face.”

Ash reiterates that she is indeed very happy and thankful to God that she got a guru right in the beginning of her career when Mani Ratnam offered to cast her in his Tamil film Iruvar opposite Mohanlal. Working with a great filmmaker like Mani Gaaru has given me unabashed joy and a sense of creative security that tends to bestow on my spirituality. While one is working with a maker like Mani Sir, each and every artist sets out to bring to the table his or her student-like approach. It is just a given. Mani Sir is all about keeping it real. I can say that it is only evolution all the way and it does not end at all.”

Aishwarya Rai returns to movies playing two roles – Queen Nandini and Mandakini Devi, though she prefers to be tight-lipped about this. The film chronicles the life of Nandini, who plots the fall of the Chola dynasty. Nandini is the wife of Periya Pazhuvettaraiyar, played by Sarathkumar. Produced under the banner of Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions, the film is slated for a theatrical release on September 30 this year. It is scheduled to release in Tamil along with the dubbed versions of Telugu, Kannada, Hindi, and Malayalam.
