Badhaai Do produced by Junglee Pictures that garnered immense love & appreciation for its heart warming subject has now also been recognized by the FOI Online Awards. The coming-of-age film bagged multiple awards including Best Feature Film, Best Original Screenplay (Akshat Ghildial, Suman Adhikary & Harshavardhan Kulkarni), Best Actor (Rajkummar Rao) and Best Supporting Actress (Sheeba Chaddha).
In its 8th year, the FOI Online Awards is an annual online poll, researched, organized and voted by a team of film enthusiasts, honouring the artists for their masterpieces. The jury follows research and successive rounds of voting to elect nominations and winners. Every procedure, including the final announcement, is held “online” only speaking volumes for the film’s global outreach and impact.
Directed by the promising Harshavardhan Kulkarni, the breakthrough content driven Badhaai Do took us on a fascinating journey of a lavender marriage set-up between Rajkummar Rao (a gay police officer) & Bhumi Pednekar (a lesbian PT teacher). The film depicted the life and struggles of the lead pair who enter into a ‘setting’ to live as roommates which lead to humorous situations between the pair and their families. The film was praised for normalizing and humanizing its LGBTQ+ characters, the manner in which they come out to their families and the change in the family dynamics, which was inspiring and heart changing, doing encouraging business at the box office.
