Bobby Bedi’s Contentflow Studios Announces A New Film Based On Phoolan Devi’s Life

On a well-lit yacht parked just off the coast of Panaji, Bobby Bedi announced a sequel to his intense drama Bandit Queen, which had made waves across the world when it released in 1994. Bandit Queen is the heart-wrenching and brutal story of a real-life woman dacoit Phoolan Devi, who had struck terror across Central India in the 1980’s. The original film ends at a point where Phoolan Devi lays down arms and surrenders in front of a Minister and in the presence of a crowd of thousands in a ceremony held on an open field. And now, Bobby Bedi has announced “Bandit Queen, M.P.” which traces her life story as Phoolan gets elected to India’s Lower House, the Lok Sabha and proceeds to fight for greater representation for women in Parliament.

Speaking to Cine Blitz, the veteran producer said, “Phoolan Devi fought three elections and won two of those. Bandit Queen, M.P. is our follow-up to the original film which was directed by Shekhar Kapur.”

Apart from the Bandit Queen sequel, Bobby Bedi’s Contentflow Studio also revealed their slate for the next few years. The line-up includes “Artists & Assassins,” which is an Indo-Spanish co-production based on one of India’s most celebrated painters, Satish Gujral and his experiences while living in Mexico in the 1950’s. Brother of former Prime Minister I K Gujral, the hearing-impaired artist was in Mexico to train under muralist David Siqueiros and painter Diego Rivera during the 1950’s. Diego Rivera was married to the legendary painter Frida Kahlo, and Satish Gujral formed friendships with both of them. David Siqueiros was a member of the Communist Party and was involved in an assassination plot targeting the revolutionary leader Leon Trotsky in 1940.
