Bollywood on battleground: 5 war films you should look forward to!

Bhuj, Kargil Girl, Arun Khetarpal, here are 5 upcoming Bollywood war films we all need to watch out for

Published at

Bollywood has given us many war-based action-thrillers over the years and actors like Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar and John Abraham have become everyone’s favourites in this genre. But, more than the actors, it’s the films that have stood out, especially the ones that were based on wars, battlefield trials and war heroes. Uri: The Surgical strike was a massive success, and with that, we can easily conclude that people are interested in such films. And Bollywood, of course, never fails to deliver what the audience demands. So, here is a list of five war-based films that you should look out for:

# Kargil Girl: Janhvi Kapoor amazed everyone with her acting in Dhadak and fans have been waiting for her to announce her next project. So, it took everyone by surprise when the news of her doing a war film broke out. In the film, she will be essaying the role of the first female combat pilot, Gunjan Saxena. She was the first woman to fly into a combat zone during the Kargil War. Well, this sure looks like an interesting story that shouldn’t be missed at any cost. Right?

# Arun Khetarpal’s biopic: Varun Dhawan has given stellar performances in most of his films. After seeing his bad boy side in Badlapur, the audience was more than convinced that he is not just a rom-com hero, but a lot more. Varun will soon be essaying yet another rough-and-tough role in a film which will be based on Arun Khetarpal, who was one of the bravest officers of the Indian Army. At the age of just 21, he fought 7 Pak tanks single-handedly in 1971. The youngest Param Vir Chakra recipient’s story needs to be heard, don’t you think? So, we are hoping that the combination of Varun and Andhadhun director Sriram Raghavan works magic, so we can all cherish Arun Khetarpal’s life story and ultimate sacrifice.

# Udham Singh’s biopic: The Jallianwala Bagh massacre during the British rule is etched in every Indian’s heart, but did you know that a brave soul avenged the wrong as well? Yes, Udham Singh, who was a revolutionary belonging to the Ghadar Party, assassinated Michael O’ Dwyer, the former lieutenant governor of Punjab in India. And guess who will essay the role of this brave heart? It is none other than Vicky Kaushal. Directed by Shoojit Sircar, the film will go on floors soon.

# Vikram Batra’s biopic: Another Kargil martyr that deserves a biopic is Captain Vikram Batra. Although Captain Batra sacrificed his life during the Kargil War, he played a huge part in India’s victory over Pakistan. The film will be produced by Dharma Productions, and Aiyaary actor Sidharth Malhotra will essay the role of this courageous man.

# Bhuj: Leader Vijay Karnik was in charge of Bhuj airport during the 1971 Indo-Pak war. It was his team that reconstructed the destroyed Indian Air Force airstrip at Bhuj in Gujarat with the help of local women. Pakistan had dropped napalm bombs and wrecked the airstrip. It is at this time that Karnik convinced 300 fearless women from a nearby village to help his team rebuild the airstrip so that a flight carrying Indian Army officers could land safely. Karnik, along with two other officers, 50 Air Force members and 60 Defence Security Corps personnel, did a great job of keeping the airbase operational despite heavy Pakistani bombing. We can easily call the incident as India’s ‘Pearl Harbour’ moment. This entire incident will be the key plot of the film Bhuj. Interesting, right? Ajay Devgn, Parineeti Chopra and Sonakshi Sinha will be a part of this great story.

Guru, Dhoom 2, Umrao Jaan – 5 must-watch Aishwarya Rai – Abhishek Bachchan films

On Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan’s 12th anniversary, today here’s taking a look at their most memorable films

Published at

Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan have been the ‘IT’ couple of Bollywood ever since they got hitched in 2007. Apart from making stunning appearances at various events nationally and internationally, the couple has also impressed the audience with their on-screen chemistry. But that’s not all! Apart from having successful film careers, the two are also doting parents to their seven-year-old daughter Aaradhya. While we are sure this powerhouse couple will continue to entertain us in the coming years, for now, we are listing down five of their must-watch films in which they starred together.

Guru (2007) – A masterpiece by director Mani Ratnam, this film impressed the critics and the audience alike. Loosely based on the life of Dhirubhai Ambani, Guru is about a simple villager who is ambitious and comes to Bombay along with his wife Sujata to make it big in the city of dreams. Ash is paired opposite Junior Bachchan in the film and their sizzling chemistry is hard to miss.

Dhoom 2 (2006) – Abhishek and Aishwarya weren’t paired opposite each other in this one. In fact, Abhi played the role of a cop whereas Ash played the antagonist in this action film along with Hrithik Roshan. Despite that, Dhoom 2 was a visual delight for their fans and the whole cat and mouse chase kept everyone hooked to the film which received much praise and adulation from the critics as well.

Raavan (2010) – This isn’t a typical Ramayana tale but is about a bandit Beera Munda (Abhishek Bachchan) who abducts the officer’s wife Ragini (Aishwarya Bachchan) and falls in love with her. Eventually, he lets her go only to realise that she is head-over-heels in love with him as well. On realising this, her husband uses her as a scapegoat to reach the Beera. Even in this film, Abhi and Ash’s chemistry is electrifying.

Umrao Jaan (2006) – This romantic-drama narrates the story about Nawab Sultan (Abhishek Bachchan) who catches the eye of the elegant and the poetic Umrao Jaan (Aishwarya Rai). The two have a passionate romance but unfortunately, Nawab’s father doesn’t approve of it and soon disowns his son. This film is quite complex with all sorts of twists and turns but Abhishek and Aishwarya do justice to their roles.

Dhai Akshar Prem Ke (2000) – This was their first film together and though it didn’t receive a lot of praise, the songs did become very popular amongst the masses.

These are their most known films together and on their 12th anniversary, we wish them a blissful marital life filled with happiness and love. Stay tuned to CineBlitz for more.

Salman Khan, Taapsee Pannu are following in the footsteps of these 4 actors – here’s how

Salman Khan and Taapsee Pannu will be seen playing older characters in their respective films, Bharat and Saand Ki Aankh

Bollywood actors and their commitment towards their work is on a different level these days. It’s nothing new in Hollywood for actors to prepare and go through drastic physical changes to become the character they would be playing in order to be more relatable for their audience. Be it weight gain, weight loss, getting six pack abs or even adding more years to their look, actors have never held back.

In recent years, we have seen the same kind of dedication from Bollywood artists as well. While many could say there is a lot more vanity in our industry than in the West, there are bold actors who don’t adhere by these norms and are taking the big step of transforming completely into their onscreen characters. Earlier this week, posters of Salman Khan starrer Bharat and Taapsee Pannu and Bhumi Pednekar’s Saand Ki Aankh were released online. In their respective films, all the three actors will be seen playing much older characters and they have completely moulded themselves into their on-screen persona and look almost unrecognizable. Well, believe it or not, but in the past, quite a few actors did the same. Take a look…

Salman Khan in Bharat

Salman Khan’s Bharat is one of the most anticipated movies to release this year for all the obvious reasons. The poster of the movie is out and Salman looks almost unrecognizable. Sporting five different looks in the movie, the poster of Bharat shows Salman in a much older version, sporting a salt-n pepper look with heavy beard and moustache

Bhumi Pednekar & Taapsee Pannu in Saand Ki Aankh

In Saand Ki Aankh , Bhumi and Taapsee will be playing the role of the world’s oldest women sharpshooters. Bhumi will be seen as Chandro Tomar while Tapsee will be playing Prakashi Tomar. Staying true to their roles, both the actresses have visibly added years to their look with the help of make-up.

John Abraham in RAW

In the newly released spy thriller Romeo Akbar Walter, John is seen sporting 15 different avatars that too successfully with the help of prosthetics and specialist Preetisheel. Especially John’s look of a 70-year-old man is very convincing.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in Sarbjit

In Omung Kumar’s directorial venture, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan played the role of Sarbjit’s sister. The films showcase the 22 years that Sarbjit spent in jail for alleged spying and terrorism. For the same, Aishwarya was happy to leave her vanity aside and played a much older character than her real-life age.

Priyanka Chopra Jonas in 7 Khoon Maaf

Priyanka Chopra has never shied away from taking up risky projects. So it’s not surprising that PeeCee did Vishal Bhardwaj’s Saat Khoon Maaf way back in 2011. In the film, her character ages from 20 to 65 and goes through several marriages at different points in her life. With the help of prosthetics, Priyanka played 7 completely different parts, one being that of a 65-year-old woman.

Rishi Kapoor in Kapoor & Sons

When Rishi Kapoor played 90-year-old grandfather in Kapoor & Sons, he got some help from Oscar-winning American make-up artist Greg Cannom of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Titanic fame. The producer of the film had to shell out Rs 2 crore for the actor’s unbelievable transformation and the look took 5 hours of hard labour every day.

April 15 will be remembered in the coming years as the day that one of the most iconic monuments in the world witnessed doom. The 850-year old Notre Dame Cathedral in France erupted in a fiery blaze, leaving the world in shock. An interesting fact about Notre Dame that you may not know of is that the monument is one of Bollywood’s most preferred shooting locations.

The song Ilahi from Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, which had Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone in lead roles, was shot in front of the monument. The scene in which Ranbir gets chased by a drug dealer gives us quite a glance of the astounding cathedral.

Ranbir-Anushka-Aishwarya starrer Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2016) also had scenes shot with the historical monument in the backdrop. In the song An Evening in Paris, you can see Ranbir and Anushka dancing on the street with the Notre Dame cathedral to the far left.
