The film Nomadland bagged top honors at the 93rd Academy Awards as it won the Oscar for Best Picture, Frances McDormand won the Oscar for Best Actress while Chloe Zhao won Best Director. Zhao said, “My entire Nomadland company, what a crazy lifetime journey.  She said this is for anyone who has the faith and the courage to hold on to the goodness in themselves and to hold on to the goodness in each other.”

Veteran actor Sir Anthony Hopkins was awarded the Oscar for Best Actor for The Father. South Korean actress Yuh-Jung Youn won the Best Supporting Actress for the film “Minari”. While Daniel Kaluuya won the Best Supporting Actor for “Judas And The Black Messiah”.

Kaluuya expressed his gratitude by saying, “Thank you god. I can’t be here without guidance and protection.. Thank you mom. Thank you for giving me everything. It is so hard to make a film and to make a film on a man like this. I am going to celebrate life. We are standing and breathing.”

David Fincher’s Mank starring Gary Oldman walked away with double honors for Best Production Design and Best Cinematography. Award for the Best International Feature Film was given to the Danish film “Another Round”, starring Mads Mikkelsen.

Emerald Fennell won the award for the Best Original Screenplay for Promising Young Woman whereas Christopher Nolan’s Tenet received the award for Best Visual Effects.

This year’s Academy Awards were held from two locations in Los Angeles — Union Station and Dolby Theatre. Dolby Theatre has been a venue for Oscars since 2001. However, this year, the live audience capacity was limited to 170 people and the guests were rotating  in and out of the ceremony.
