That the Telugu super star was arrested and sent to Chanchalguda Central Jail after a case was registered against the actor based on a complaint filed by the victim’s husband, who died in ‘Pushpa 2’ screening stampede. The stampede had occurred during the screening at 9.30 pm on December 4, after Mr Arjun arrived. A 35-year-old woman, Revathi, had died and her nine-year-old son had to be hospitalised after facing breathing issues due to the crowd surge.
Telugu actor Allu Arjun who was arrested in connection with the stampede outside a Hyderabad theatre screening ‘Pushpa 2’ earlier this month in which one woman was killed. He was taken into custody from his house in Jubilee Hills. However, the deceased lady’s husband has written to the cops that Allu Arjun had nothing to do with his wife’s death which was accidental
The Hyderabad police had registered a case against Allu Arjun, his security team, and the management of the theatre, based on a complaint filed by the victim’s husband. On December 8, the theatre owner, general manager, and security manager were arrested. According to police, there was no intimation from theatre management or the actor’s team that they would be visiting the theatre. The theatre management also did not make any additional provisions regarding security to manage the crowd.
Allu Arjun – arrested today afternoon in connection with the stampede last week at a Hyderabad theatre showing his ‘Pushpa 2: The Rise’ – was granted interim bail hours after his arrest. As it released the actor, the Telangana High Court observed “just because he is an actor. he cannot be held like this.” Shortly before that observation Arjun had been sent to jail for 14 days.

Raza Murad was quick to comment on the actor’s arrest. A stampede occurred, a person died and people were injured. What was the fault of the actor? The responsibility of the theatre is not in the hands of the actor. Crowd control is not an actor’s job. If that is the reason for the arrest, it is beyond my understanding…I am surprised…It is not a crime to be popular or to work in hit films.
Actor doesn’t gather a crowd. Crowds gather due to the popularity of a film, of an actor…If there is any other reason, I can’t speak about that. If he has been arrested, that should be investigated too – why was he arrested, what was the reason. There should be a concrete reason…” he added.
The Hyderabad police had said neither the actor’s team nor the management of Sandhya 70 MM Theatre had informed them that he would be attending the premiere. They said his appearance led to a crowd surge, which caused the stampede. Contrary to the claims made by the management of Sandhya theatre, the letter from the management of the Sandhya Theatre to the police written on December 2, two days before the stampede which counters a key claim made by the police.
Addressed to the assistant commissioner of police at the Chikkadpally police station in Hyderabad, the letter, which bears the letterhead of Sandhya Theatre, states that the premiere of ‘Pushpa 2’ would be held on December 4 and that a large crowd was expected to attend. The actor’s lawyer said in court on Friday that the letter had been signed and acknowledged by the assistant commissioner of police.
“We request you to arrange to provide Police Bandobust (arrangements) at SANDHYA 70 MM RTC X Roads, Hyderabad in connection with the release of PUSHPA 2 on 04-12-2024 because there will be a heavy fan crowd (sic). The Hero, Heroine and VIPs and Production unit of the film are coming to see the movie,” the letter states.
