Corona affected celebrities in Bollywood

Senior journalist Jyothi Venkatesh compiles the names of celebrities who have been struck down by the novel corona 19 virus in Bollywood over the last year and a half

While India is still struggling in its fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, the second wave of novel coronavirus has hit the country hard. COVID-19 cases are increasing day by day in many states and Maharashtra, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu are among the worst-hit. That said, the virus has spared none, be it Bollywood actors, TV artists or sports celebs, like Sachin Tendulkar.

From Sonu Sood and Arjun Rampal to Neil Nitin Mukesh and Rahul Roy, many Bollywood celebrities have tested positive for the novel coronavirus recently. Here is a list of all the celebrities who tested positive in the second wave. While steps are being taken to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus, the second wave is proving to be very devastating. A slew of Bollywood celebrities have tested positive for the virus.

Govinda tested positive for coronavirus last year. The actor had mild symptoms and was under home quarantine following necessary protocols. Sonu Sood too tested positive last year for the novel coronavirus. The actor took to social media to share his health update with his fans and followers. He assured everyone that there was nothing to worry about. “Hello friends, I would like to inform you that my test for COVID-19 has come positive. So, I’ve quarantined myself. Nothing to worry about, On the contrary, I will now have more time to fix your difficulties than ever before. Remember, any trouble. I’m always with you.”

Ritwik Bhowmik (of ‘Bandish Bandits’ fame) tested COVID-19 positive last year and was under home quarantine. The actor took to Instagram to share about his diagnosis with his fans. Last year, Arjun Rampal too tested positive for the novel coronavirus. The actor shared the update on his social media handles. Arjun was under home quarantine and followed all the necessary protocols. “I tested for COVID-19. Even though I am asymptomatic, I isolated myself and home quarantined, getting the needed medical care. I followed all protocols as was required of me. This is a very scary time for us but if we are aware and wise for a short span of time, it will yield long term benefits. Together, we can and we will fight Corona! (sic),” the statement read.

Weeks after getting first jab of the coronavirus vaccine, actor-politician Paresh Rawal was diagnosed with the COVID-19 last year. The actor informed about the news on social media, asking others who came in contact with him to get themselves tested.

Ashutosh Rana joined the list of Covid-positive celebrities last year on April 14. The actor took to social media to inform his fans and followers that he had been diagnosed with Covid-19. He wrote a long note in shuddh Hindi on Facebook and updated his fans about his health condition.

Costume designer Manish Malhotra too tested positive for the novel coronavirus. The ace fashion designer took to Instagram on April 16 last year to confirm the news and was under home quarantine. “I tested positive for COVID 19. I immediately isolated myself and was under home quarantine and followed all safety protocols under the advice of my doctors. Please stay safe & take care (sic),” Manish wrote on Instagram.

Rahul Roy and his family were under home quarantine for 14 days much before testing positive as their neighbor had contracted the virus and as a precautionary measure their apartment was also sealed off. However, after getting an RT PCR test done almost a fortnight later, the reports came positive.

“My Resident Floor was sealed as a neighbor had got tested positive so as a precautionary measure we all were sealed within our own flats for 14 days. I and my family had to fly to Delhi on 11th April so we did RTPCR test from Metropolis Lab on 7th April only to receive the test reports on 10th April stating my whole family @romeersen and @priyankaroy_pia are Covid positive (sic),” the actor wrote.

Neil and his family were under home quarantine following the necessary protocols. The caption of his post read, “Need all your love and blessings. Please do not take the situation out there lightly (sic).” Alia Bhatt, who was shooting for her film Gangubai Kathiyawadi, tested positive for the virus. She tested negative for the virus last year on April 14. Alia posted a new sun kissed photo of her to confirm the news. She wrote, “The only time being negative is a good thing (sic).” She was wearing a tie-and-dye jumper with her pink pajamas. Ranbir Kapoor had tested positive for the novel coronavirus. The actor’s mother, Neetu Kapoor, took to Twitter on March 9 to confirm the same. Ranbir was spotted at his girlfriend’s house on March 30, declaring that he has tested negative.

Katrina took to Instagram to share with her fans and followers that she had tested negative for Covid-19. “Negative, everyone who checked up on me thank you , it was really sweet ,” she wrote. Her boyfriend then and husband now Vicky Kaushal shared a sun kissed picture of himself on April 16 to announce the same. Vicky had tested Covid positive on April 5. The actor has since then recovered from the virus in less than two weeks’ time.

Alia’s Gangubai Kathiawadi co-star Seema Pahwa tested positive for the virus. Seema shared a selfie and wrote, “Positive hun har baat ko le kar Dekhlo report bhi POSITIVE hi aa gai (I am positive about everything, and now my report is also positive) I am covid positive 14 days home Corentin take care (sic).”

Gangubai Kathiawadi’s director Sanjay Leela Bhansali also battled with the virus. The filmmaker went into home quarantine for two weeks after testing positive for the novel coronavirus on March 9. He tested negative on March 23.

Akshay Kumar announced on social media that he had tested positive for coronavirus on April 4. He was admitted to the hospital as a precautionary measure. On April 12, Twinkle Khanna shared an update, revealing that the actor is back home and “all iz well”. “Safe and sound and good to have him back around. #allizwell (sic),” Twinkle wrote.

Bhumi Pednekar confirmed with a post on Instagram that she too tested positive for the virus in the first week of April. She shared a photo of herself and wrote, “I am negative but super positive about life.” Kartik revealed that he had tested positive. On April 5, the actor confirmed that he has tested negative for the virus. Kartik shared a post on social media and wrote, “Negative 14 din ka vanvas khatam back to work (sic).” He shared a sun kissed picture of himself and used his finger to show the negative sign.

Tara Sutaria, who was last seen in her film Tadap, tested positive for Covid-19 last year. After a week, the actress announced that she has tested Covid-19 negative and is now healthy. “Thank you all for your concern and love. I am covid negative and healthy! Be safe and well. Lots of love to you all,” she wrote.

Aamir Khan tested positive for the novel coronavirus last year on March 24. The actor’s spokesperson confirmed the news. He said, “Aamir Khan has tested positive for Covid-19. He is at home in self-quarantine, following all the protocols and he’s doing fine. All those who came in contact with him in the recent past should get themselves tested as a precautionary measure. ”

Aamir Khan’s 3 Idiots co-star, R Madhavan, tested positive for the virus just a day after the superstar tested positive. On March 25, Madhavan took to Twitter and wrote, “Farhan HAS to follow Rancho and Virus has always been after us BUT this time he bloody caught up. BUT-ALL IS WELL and the Covid will be in the Well soon. Though this is one place we don’t want Raju in.”

Manoj Bajpayee recovered from Covid-19 within two weeks of testing positive for the virus. The actor tested positive last year on March 12 and, according to Bajpayee’s spokesperson, he tested negative on March 26. Siddhant Chaturvedi also took two weeks to recover from the virus. On March 27, he shared the news of recovering from the virus. He wrote, “COVID negative but still Keep your distance.”

Satish Kaushik had tested positive for the novel coronavirus last year on March 18 and had to be admitted to the hospital. He tested negative for the virus and returned home on March 30. The actor’s daughter, who was also recovering from Covid, is doing better, the actor shared.

Prem Chopra, known for playing iconic villain roles in Hindi films is the latest Bollywood personality to have contracted the virus. Other actors who tested positive for COVID include John Abraham and his wife Priya Runchal, producer Ekta Kapoor, actors Mrunal Thakur, Nora Fatehi, veteran filmmaker Rahul Rawail, producer Rhea Kapoor and her filmmaker-husband Karan Boolani and Prem Chopra’s wife Uma. Besides Malaika Arora, her boyfriend Arjun Kapoor has also been afflicted with corona for the second time now.

As I finish typing this article, the latest news trickles in that actor and politician Manoj Tiwari has been afflicted for the second time with coronavirus. Coronavirus is spreading rapidly in the country. The celebs of the film and TV industry are also falling prey to it. Producer Ekta Kapoor and actress Delnaaz Irani were found to be Covid-19 positive and now news is coming that the popular TV actress Drashti Dhami has come positive.
