It isn’t easy to come out in public and talk about your mental illness. Deepika Padukone was strong, and probably the first one from the industry to talk openly about her struggle with depression. A chapter on Deepika’s battle with depression is now a chapter in a book titled The Dot That Went For a Walk, written by Lakshmi Nambiar, Reema Gupta and Sarada Akkineni. Deepika herself launched the book at an event yesterday.
Deepika opened up about battling depression in the year 2015, and the actor has been talking about it since then, and endorsing mental health awareness to most. She runs her own charity foundation ‘Live Love Laugh’ that has helped many people suffering from mental illness around the country. The book talks about the tales of 51 accomplished Indian women, who introduce the concept of women power to kids. The book will also feature 51 illustrations by 51 different artists from across the country. Deepika’s illustration has been created by Ritu Bhattacharya. Apart from Deepika Padukone, the book also includes Rani Lakshmibai, Indira Gandhi and Kiran Bedi. The book is all set to release by next week. And this is a new feather in Deepika’s cap.
Deepika graced the book launch event wearing a Gauri and Nainika outfit and pink pumps, looking gorgeous. Deepika had a wonderful 2018 with her marriage to long time beau Ranveer Singh. Also, her film Padmaavat was a huge success and the highest grossing film with a female character in the lead. Recentlym she began working on her next project with Meghna Gulzar titled Chapaak, based on an acid-attack survivor who became an inspiration for many. With the work in her real and reel life, Deepika deserves the mention in the book and the world needs to understand her story.
