Sourav Ganguly and team India’s 2002 NatWest final win over England was a remarkable day in the history of Indian cricket. But that’s not it! The impact of the win went deeper than just cricket, as it inspired several young minds. This aspect of the victory has been unexplored yet! But now Delhi Belly director Abhinay Deo is all set to bring it to the screens with Doosra, a sports-drama starring Ankur Vikal (of Slumdog Millionaire fame) and Plabita Borthakur (of Lipstick Under My Burkha fame).

Doosra is a multi-layered story that is told through the eyes of a young girl who chooses a different route for freedom. It showcases how the match as well as Sourav Ganguly and his team freed the country of its inhibitions, especially the girl. Ankur Vikal plays Sourav, while Plabita plays the young girl. The first poster came out today and it looks fantastic. You can see the unhappy, trapped girl on one side and the jubilant, victorious Indian captain on the other. Check out the Doosra poster and share with us your thoughts about it in the comments section below.

Doosra poster announcement:

Doosra is a socio-sports drama set in the nineties and the early 2000s. It brings together two vastly different narratives. It showcases courage and freedom of expression in its truest form. And also how one incident, Ganguly’s iconic taking off the T-shirt, liberates Indians! The Doosra trailer will be out tomorrow and we are quite excited to see it!

Talking about Doosra, Abhinay Deo says, “Sourav Ganguly marked the end of an era, the end of the submission. His one move at the NatWest final was so powerful, it brought such a huge paradigm shift in our thinking. This film captures this through the life of a girl living in a patriarchal family suppressed by society and societal obligations. The poster of the film is only the first look. There are several more layers that audiences will understand once they watch the trailer”. With the Doosra trailer coming out tomorrow (June 28), stay tuned to CineBlitz for more news and updates about the movie.
