By sweeping victory in more than 300 seats from 543 constituencies, Narendra Modi has become India’s Prime Minister once again. Yes, yesterday (May 23) was a winning day not only for BJP but also for its candidates. In fact, not only did the political leaders shine in their constituencies, even Bollywood stars secured a good number of votes in the seats they contested from. However, the election results for Bollywood were rather mixed.

Yes, actors-turned-politicians contesting from BJP included Hema Malini, Smriti Irani, Sunny Deol, Gautam Gambhir, Babu Supriyo, Ravi Kishan, Kirron Kher and also Jaya Prada. While most of them led in the seats they contested from, Jaya Prada turned out to be the only celebrity from BJP who trailed back in her constituency Rampur. On winning, Hema Malini took to Twitter thanking the people of Mathura. She said, “I thank all the wonderful Mathuravasis who have re-elected me as their MP. They have showered their love on me & appreciated my work as their rep for these past 5 yrs. I pray for your contd support. To all the govt officials & police personnel who always support me -a spl Thank u.” An equally elated Sunny Deol thanked PM Modi and Amit Shah for putting their faith on them.

While the celebs contesting from Congress also had a decent stint in getting votes, Manoj Tiwari was the only candidate who led in his constituency North Delhi. Urmila Matondkar who contested from Mumbai North faced defeat. While she congratulated her victorious opponent she also pointed out at the discrepancies in the EVMs. Talking to a news agency Urmila said, “I congratulate Gopal Shetty. We have noticed discrepancies in EVMs, we have prepared a report on it that we will submit to Election Commission at the end of the day.”  Shatrughan Sinha who this year had a new Congress ticket from his old constituency Patna Sahib. Other than Shatrughan Sinha, his wife Poonam Sinha who was a candidate from the Samajwadi Party also couldn’t gather many votes in Lucknow. Director-actor and now politician Prakash Raj also faced defeat with a big margin in Central Bangalore (Karnataka).

Many congratulations to all the winning candidates. As for the losing ones, let us see how they up their game in the next elections. Until then, stay tuned to CineBlitz for all interesting updates related to the entertainment world.
