Rajkumar Hirani seems to be reeling under the allegations of sexual misconduct that were made against him early this year. Following the complaint made against him by a female member of the technical team of Sanju, the filmmaker’s name was unceremoniously dropped from the credits as the co-producer of Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s recent release, Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga. While the makers did not confirm at any point that Hirani’s ouster days before the release was due to the #MeToo allegations, they did not deny it either. But besides, losing out on the project, the allegations seem to be taking a heavier toll on Hirani. Even as several like Dia Mirza and Sharman Joshi have stepped up in the filmmaker’s support, the nature of the complaint seems to be weighing heavy on Hirani who has apparently withdrawn from an active social life.

We have learnt that the filmmaker has not stepped out of the house since the allegations have come about. In fact, a neighbour who resides in the same vicinity as Hirani reveals that the filmmaker who used to be a regular with his morning walks has not been seen in a long while now. But that’s not all. Those who did get a glimpse of Hirani have shared that he has lost several kilos and looked visibly harrowed. Our source shared, “Hirani has undoubtedly lost a lot of weight. Since the allegations surfaced, no one has seen him leave the premise. It’s almost like he is under self-imposed house-arrest.”

While the exact nature and the status of the complaint is unclear, we do know that such allegations – not only against Hirani, but also against others – are being taken seriously by the industry. The allegations have led to the ouster of Sajid Khan and Subhash Kapoor from big-budget projects. Sajid was dropped as the director from Housefull 4, while Subhash had to quit Mogul. The accusation against Vikas Bahl had also led to the breaking up of his production house, Phantom Films, that he had co-founded with Anurag Kashyap, Vikramaditya Motwane and Madhu Mantena. The Federation of Western India Cine Employees issued a six-month ban on Alok Nath, who was accused of rape by director Vinta Nanda. What do you have to say about this?
