Late Kader Khan, actor Manoj Bajpayee, singer-composer Shankar Mahadevan and actor-filmmaker Prabhudeva are among the few names included in the list of 112 Padma Awardees this year named by the President of India today on the eve of 70th Republic Day (January 25). The Padma Awards are divided in three categories, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri. Kader Khan is awarded the Padma Shri for his immense contribution to the Indian cinema with over 300 films to his credit. The news has come just after a month after his demise.

Talking exclusively to Cine Blitz, the actor’s son Sarfaraz says that the family is overwhelmed with the announcement. “Yes, we do feel that this honour should’ve come while my father was alive, but all the same I accept it, as it is an honour my father has got from the country and I also know a lot of people from the film industry have wanted to see him get this honour. We are overwhelmed with this announcement.” When asked if he would be coming to India to accept the award, Sarfaraz said, “We are three brothers. Any one of us will come to accept it.”

Writer Rumi Jaffery too agrees and shares with Cine Blitz, “If the news would have come out at least two months ago, he (Kader Khan) would have been very happy.” Known for his films like JudaaiSooryavanshamCoolie No.1 and many more, Kader Khan deserves the honour without any doubt. Actor Manoj Bajpayee has also been awarded the Padma Shri for his contribution to cinema for 24 long years. His acting prowess has made him win the title and we are happy. Singer-composer Shankar Mahadevan and actor-filmmaker Prabhudeva are also among the Padma Shri awardees for their contribution to music and dance respectively. South superstar Mohanlal is awarded the Padma Bhushan for his immense hardwork in making his industry shine.

The list includes 112 names in all, who are being honoured for dedicating their lives to arts. It is indeed a proud moment for all and getting to see them receiving the honour will be much cherished moments too. Though Kader Khan isn’t here with us, his work and talent will always keep him alive.
