Post the recent devastating Pulwama attack in Kashmir, the Indian film fraternity has come together to lend their unanimous support to the armed forces. Passing over their personal commercial gains in favour of the nation, a lot of tough decisions have been made by the industry to stand in solidarity with our heroes. Earlier, Ajay Devgn refused to release their film Total Dhamaal in Pakistan. And now, Dinesh Vijan (Maddock Films), producer of films like Stree and Hindi Medium, has resolved to not release any of his future projects in Pakistan, making a clear statement on his no-tolerance stand when it comes to terrorism.
Dinesh Vijan has cancelled contracts for his upcoming releases – including Luka Chuppi (March 1) starring Kartik Aaryan and Kriti Sanon, as well as films like Arjun Patiala starring Kriti and Diljit Dosanjh and Made in China starring Rajkummar Rao – with Pakistani distributors, proving that country comes first for the filmmaker and his team. Sources from the industry predict that a lot of other producers in India will follow suit, standing united in this time of turmoil. “They are all in agreement that at a time like this a unified call needs to be taken by the filmmakers and the industry too,” says an insider.
On February 14, over 40 CRPF soldiers were martyred on the Jammu-Srinagar highway. The terrorists rammed a car laden with explosives next to a security convoy, triggering deadly explosions in what is one of the state’s worst attacks. Terrorist organisation Jaish-e-Mohammed has claimed responsibility for the attack although the government of Pakistan has refused to accept any involvement in the ghastly act.
