FIR registered against Viacom 18 and Shemaroo

An FIR has been registered against the Chief Officers, Directors of Viacom 18 Media Pvt. Ltd and Shemaroo Entertainment Limited

Viacom 18 Media is one of the largest entertainment networks in India. However, looks like they have landed in legal trouble. Last evening (May 30) an FIR was registered against the chief officers, directors and others from Viacom 18 Media Pvt Ltd at the Amboli Police Station. An FIR was also registered against Shemaroo Entertainment Limited.

The FIR has been filed by film producer Satish Tandon of Satish Tandon Productions. According to a comprehensive inquiry, it was discovered that Viacom 18 has been illegally hosting and streaming various films including the complainant’s film on its digital platform Voot.com. The company in question is said to have taken no permission or valid license from the owner/producers, violating the law.

In the course of the investigation, the police also found out that film aggregator companies like Shemaroo Entertainment Limited who own negative rights of thousands of Hindi films and other language films are also involved with big studios to which they supply various content for hosting on their channels/platforms.

The names of those accused in the FIR include Viacom 18’s group CEO Sudhanshu Vats, COO Ajit Andhare among others and Raman Hirji Maroo and Vinod Karani, the MD and Vice President of Shemaroo Entertainment Limited respectively amongst other. Stay tuned to CineBlitz for more such news and updates.
