5 Bollywood couples who remain friends even after separating

The separation of Dia Mirza and Sahil Sangha has been remarkably amicable. But they are the latest of a series of showbiz couples who parted ways but are still friends.

Dia Mirza – Sahil Sangha

Dia Mirza and Sahil Sangha announced their separation on social media. Sahil posted a statement from their side on Instagram stating that they were parting ways after 11 years of marriage. Sahil wrote, “After 11 years of sharing our lives and being together, we have mutually decided to separate. We remain friends and will continue to be there for each other with love and respect. While our journeys may lead us down different paths, we are forever grateful for the bond that we share with each other.’’

Dia was quick to defend her ex-husband Sahil Sangha and writer Kanika Dhillon who was being blamed for the break up. This clearly shows that their friendship is still going strong. But Sahil and Dia are not the only couple who continue to be friends after separation. Here are five Bollywood celebrity couples who have proved that divorce is only the end of their marriage, not of their friendship.

Pooja Bhatt – Manish Makhija

Pooja Bhatt and her husband Manish Makhija ended their marriage of 11 years. In December 2014 Pooja announced the breakup on Twitter. It was the first time Bollywood witnessed a Twitter break up. She wrote, “To all those who care & especially those that don’t my husband Munna & Me have decided to part ways after 11 glorious years of marriage. Our split as some might call it is amicable & we hold each other in the highest esteem for now and forever.’’

Konkona Sen Sharma – Ranvir Shorey

In September 2015 Konkana Sen Sharma and Ranvir Shorey announced their separation. Konkana wrote on Twitter, “Ranvir and I have mutually decided to separate, but continue to be friends and co-parent our son. Will appreciate your support. Thank you.’’ Ranvir also posted the same words only replacing his name with Konkana’s. They continue to be good parents for their son.

Anurag Kashyap – Kalki Koechlin

Though there were issues which the two never discussed in the media, Anurag Kashyap and Kalki Koechlin announced their separation in 2013 by issuing a statement to the media which read, “Me and Kalki are separating, we are taking time off from each other to figure things out. We are not divorcing. We request the media to please respect our privacy and give us our space and not speculate. Thank you, Kalki and Anurag.” They continue to remain friends though they have not worked professionally after the separation.

Hrithik Roshan – Sussanne Khan

There were several speculations made behind Hrithik Roshan and Sussanne Khan’s separation but the couple maintained the dignity of their relationship. Hrithik and Sussanne issued a joint statement to the media which read, “Sussanne has decided to separate from me and end our 17-year relationship. This is a very trying time for the entire family and I request the media and the people to grant us our privacy at this time. I do not wish this news to disempower my fans and the people about the institution of marriage in any way. I am a firm believer in this institution and respect and honour it at the highest level.’’ Hrithik Roshan and Sussanne continued to be friends and are co-parenting their two children. The couple also go on holidays with the kids.

Aamir Khan – Reena Dutta

It has been over 15 years since Aamir Khan and Reena Dutta have separated but they still remain friends. Reena is always present at Aamir’s family functions. The former couple always make sure they are for their children. Reena was spotted at the special screening of Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak. Reena and Aamir had secretly got married during the making of the film.

So these are the five couples who divorced but didn’t let bitterness overwhelm them. They have maintained cordial relations and are still friends. Stay tuned to CineBlitz for more interesting features about celebrities from showbiz.

Batman Calling… is how Emran ensured his son ate food!

Emraan Hashmi’s family went through a dark phase when his son Ayaan was diagnosed with cancer at a tender age of 5.

Emraan Hashmi’s family

While on Sony Entertainment Television’s Kaun Banega Crorepati 11 for the Karamveer special episode with Purnota Dutta Bahl – who works to ensure proper nutrition for cancer affected underprivileged children –  actor Emraan Hashmi revealed how his son wouldn’t want to eat vegetables while taking chemotherapy sessions for seven whole months.

Then, Emraan and his wife devised a trick to make him eat knowing Ayaan’s immense love for superheroes, especially Batman. “It isn’t easy for a child to take chemotherapy. Naturally, he would throw fits in hospital and throw things and refuse to have food, which was much needed at that time for his immunity. When all our tactics to make him eat failed, to finally make him eat, I would go out of the hospital room and meanwhile, my wife would save my phone number as Batman and change my display picture to that of the Superhero. My wife would give the phone to him and I would convince him to eat as I know he wouldn’t refuse Batman ever. That’s how Ayaan gained proper nutrition during his time in the hospital,” Emraan said.

Supporting  Purnota, Emraan Hashmi says, “First of all I would like to thank KBC for bringing real life heroes on national television. I have been following Purnota’s work since many years because my son was diagnosed with cancer five years ago, and later my mother too became a victim of the disease. A family is emotionally devastated when somebody from that family is diagnosed with cancer. My son Ayaan’s remission phase – during which the cancer might make a comeback – was a tough phase for us as we parents go through a lot of fear psychosis. The whole process is psychologically disturbing. While researching about the disease, I got to know that nutrition plays an important role in the treatment as the body needs a strong immune system while going through the treatment. Even after the medical treatment, we have to focus on follow-up care, which involves proper nutrition and the well-being of a person,  which has been the focal point of Cuddle foundation.”

Mardaani 2 director Gopi Puthran clarifies on the Kota controversy

— Deletes the word Kota from the film

Gopi Puthran, writer-director of Mardaani 2, says, “Mardaani 2 addresses a huge societal issue of rape and the rise of horrific crimes committed by juveniles in India. One is deeply moved when such shocking incidents happen and as a writer, I wanted to voice this issue and bring to light a terrible reality that today’s India and its youth face. I was troubled by many, many incidents that took place across our country in the last four years and the complex nature of those crimes left me shocked and perplexed. As a human being, I felt fear after reading about these incidents because it could happen to my family or people that I know and I wanted to do my bit to make as many people aware of the threat posed by nameless, faceless, young and underage boys who are resorting to such violence.”

Mardaani 2 has been inspired by all such incidents that rocked the country and left us all scarred. Despite all the inspirations, Mardaani 2 at the end of the day is a film and not a documentary and it should be seen as that. Kota has been used by us as the setting for this film only. We are, in no way, suggesting that such events or incidents happen in Kota and there was no intention to tarnish the reputation of the city. If this has hurt or upset the sentiments of residents of the city, we are deeply regretful. We realize that since the trailer says it’s ‘Inspired By True Events’ and our film is based in Kota, it could be open to miscommunication. YRF has decided that we will remove the words ‘Inspired By True Events’ from the film to ensure that there is no further room for misinterpretation for anyone. We shot Mardaani 2 extensively in Kota and we only received love and warmth and huge cooperation from the people and all the authorities of the city. This gesture is YRF’s mark of respect to Kota and it’s wonderful people.”
