This week (May 20) saw the closure to the cult series Game of Thronesand the end got a mixed response from the audience. We all know that the show was originally based on George RR Martin’s books the Song of Ice and Fire. But the last two seasons were written by the show-runners themselves. The end of GoT was not as per George RR Martin’s writings. Now, naturally, fans across the globe want to know what ending would have George RR Martin written? Well, the author has answered the question for us and here is what he said.

We all know how GoT ended with Jon Snow killing Dany and Bran becoming the new king, while giving decent ends to all the other characters too who have become a part of our lives in the past 10 years. If this is still a spoiler for you, sorry, but you cannot be a fan. About the end, there has been a huge backlash that David Benioff and Dan Weiss have faced. Everyone wants to know what ending does George has in his mind for his book. Answering the biggest question, George on his blog wrote, “How will it all end? The same ending as the show? Different? Well… yes. And no. And yes. And no. And yes. And no. And yes.” Talking about the end further, he added, “It’s a silly question. How many children sis Scarlett O’Hara have? Three, in the novel. One, in the movie. None in real life: she was a fictional character, she never existed. The show is the show, the books are the books; two different tellings of the same story.”

Martin has worked closely with David and Dan on the previous seasons and has also written a few episodes. So while talking about the backlash, he wrote that David and Dan just had six episodes to wind up the magnum opus and his manuscript of the final two novels will have roughly 3,000 pages.
