Has Shah Rukh Khan finally signed his next film?

After Shah Rukh Khan’s last film, the Aanand L Rai directorial Zero failed to set the box office on fire, there’s been much speculation about the superstar’s next project. Post the Zero debacle, the actor walked out of the Rakesh Sharma biopic tentatively titled Saare Jahaan Se Achcha. This was followed by buzz of him doing Farhan Akhtar’s Don 3, where he was to reprise his role as the Don in the third installment of the hit franchise. However, inspite of trade talks and industry buzz, there’s been no confirmation or announcement forthcoming from either Farhan Akhtar or Shah Rukh. But there’s good news for Shah Rukh Khan fans. Looks like even as all the speculation about him doing Don 3 abounds, the superstar may have already locked in his next film.

Yes, that’s right. According to South trade reports, Shah Rukh Khan has signed on his next. While the details are under wraps, reports claim that the film will be helmed by South hit director Atlee. While the buzz had been going on for a while, what has further fuelled the reports is the fact that they were spotted at last night’s (April 9) IPL match together. Check the pic here:

SRK and Atlee were seen engrossed in a deep conversation throughout the IPL match last night at the Chepauk Stadium, Triplicane in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. SRK’s Kolkata Knight Riders were playing against Chennai Super Kings. And buzz is that the Tamil filmmaker and Shah Rukh Khan may be working on the remake of the Tamil blockbuster Mersal (2017). The film is an action thriller that had South star Vijay portray three roles. The story revolves around twin brothers. According to trade figures, Mersal is the sixth highest grossing South film of all time. South trade expert Ramesh Bala even tweeted about it. He posted: “@iamsrk and @Atlee_dir are certainly doing a Movie together. Whether it’s #Mersal Hindi remake or fresh script is to be decided.” Check out the tweet right here:

However, Atlee at present is busy with his South sports based film Thalapathy 63 and it may be a while for the SRK project to take off. Thalapathy is scheduled for an October release. SRK in all likelihood may be completing his Don 3 by then. Considering Farhan was so far busy with shooting for The Sky is Pink with Priyanka Chopra, it may have taken him a while to start work on Don 3.
