Exclusive! Who should play Hema Malini and Dharmendra in their biopic? Esha Deol gives a surprising answer

Exclusive! Esha Deol feels that it would take a completely new set of actors to star in Hema Malini and Dharmendra’s biopic

Today is the age of the biopic. We’ve had some really entertaining and stirring biopics made in the last few years. But a biopic on living legends is a huge responsibility, though it would have a lot of pluses since the ‘lead characters’ would be present in the live dimension.  There have been a few biopics made on living legends like Mary Kom, Milkha Singh and so on. So when team Cine Blitz caught up with Esha Deol, while promoting Cakewalk (her short film), we asked her thoughts on what a biopic on her mother would play out like?

While speculating a biopic on Hema Malini, we asked Esha Deol who she think would do justice to playing Hemaji and who could play Dharamji? She has obviously also had this thought. This papa’s laadli said, “I think we should look for fresh faces to play them, because if you take someone who is already famous or an established actor, you’d be seeing that actor or actress only playing my parents. So it would have to be someone completely raw and new, but who looked like my mother basically.  And also my father.”

Creating a biopic is such a big responsibility. Why didn’t she and her producer brothers do it?  She shied away saying, “I don’t want to do it. But I’ve have encouraged my father to do it in his way. I’ve been telling him that this is something he needs to do because there are so many people out there who want to know about his life. And besides some documentary  and all, he needs to do something about it. Now that the seed of that thought has been put in his head by me, I’m sure he’ll do something about it and work on it.”

We are sure that papa Dharam will do more than think about it. Come to think of it, it’s quite amazing that it hasn’t happened already. Do let us know in the comments section below, who you think would be ideal as Dharmendra and Hema Malini in a biopic on them.

Titled The Jawaani Song, the peppy number impressed the audience and got everyone grooving courtesy its upbeat music.
