The world of Kalank that was promoted by the team so extensively to be grand and beautiful failed to impress the audience on its release on April 19. Lead stars Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt and other cast members including Madhuri Dixit, Sanjay Dutt, Aditya Roy Kapur, and Sonakshi Sinha received a lot of backlash for Kalank as well. It has now become Varun’s first big failure of his career and this hit the actor really hard.

Talking about the film’s failure, Varun posted a video and revealed about what went down after the film tanked at the box office. In the video, he said, “My 32nd birthday… But I am going to tell you how it all went down. I was a little down because my latest release did not go the way I thought it would and it did hit me a little hard, I will be very honest. I didn’t know how to react to it. A lot of people told me, ‘don’t show it’. I don’t know how to behave like that. Failures are a part of life.” His friends took him to Thailand for a trip and the video showed how he spent his time there.

Interestingly, the film opened at 20 crores and it also became the biggest opener in the careers of Alia and Varun. But post the opening, the film could not mint any profits. The film earned only 78 crores at the box office. Now, we will get to see Varun in Remo D’Souza’s Street Dancer 3D alongside Shraddha Kapoor and then in the adaptation on Coolie No 1 alongside Sara Ali Khan.
