The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) is a body for certifying movies. Their primary role is to give a film a rating (U, U/A or A) after seeing it. Yet, over the past few decades, it has been controversially involved in demands of cuts and banning movies. However, today we heard a new tale! Hu Narender Modi Banva Mangu Chu filmmaker Anil Naryani has alleged how CBFC chairperson Prasoon Joshi has been harassing him over the past 7 months. In fact, he mentioned how even after getting a U certificate from the revising committee twice, he was given a U/A rating by him (Prasoon).
Talking to us exclusively, Anil revealed, “It is a film about a child aspiring to be Modi. But after a lot of stress and harassment, Prasoon Joshi forcibly gave it a U/A rating. In fact, the jury had given it a U certificate. But he, without reason, has given it a U/A rating. Under 24/1 clause, the Chairperson can reject the film or give you another certificate without any reason or declaration. That clause was put in! I tried making him understand that it’s a child’s aspirational movie, but he harassed me for 7 months. Two times he made me take my film to the revising committee. Three times it was given a U certificate, but he made it a U/A finally, and then gave it to me. ”
A frustrated Anil reveals that he just wants the film to release now! As he added, “It’s now time to release the film. If I don’t do it now, I won’t be able to ever. We plan to release on March 1.” The makers are also planning to hold a press conference in Ahmedabad today regarding the Gujarati movie’s release. We have mailed the chairperson of CBFC, Prasoon Joshi, but haven’t got a revert till the time of publishing.
