Huma Qureshi, who was last seen in Akshay Kumar starrer Jolly LLB 2, is all set to woo the audience with her new web series titled Leila. The video streaming giant Netflix, today, announced the show and released a teaser of the same. Even Huma took to social media and shared the teaser with her fans. Though the video is hardly 25 seconds long, it’s quite impressive. Co-directed by the ace filmmaker Deepa Mehta, Shanker Raman and Pawan Kumar, the series will be available to the viewers globally from June 14 onwards. Leila also stars Siddharth, Rahul Khanna, Sanjay Suri and Arif Zakaria in important roles.
Based on a book written by Prayaag Akbar, the series is set in a dystopian future in a city that thrives on purity and the citizens live in a discriminated set up that considers caste, religion and class. The story is basically about a mother and her arduous journey to find her daughter. It’s the story of longing, loss and faith. The teaser, which is out, gives a sneak-peek into Leila’s world and it’s quite dark, intense and hard-hitting, just as you would expect a Deepa Mehta directorial to be. Huma as Shalini (mother) can be seen in a religious attire at the end of the teaser video. Since all the three directors on-board are associated with dark and intense drama, the same is very much visible in the teaser as well.
