IFFI 2019 Pays Homage to 13 Film Personalities who left us this year

Bhuvan Shoma and Umrao Jaan are some films you should not miss out

The past year has seen the passing of some of the stalwarts in the Indian film industry. These path-breakers have left an indelible mark on various aspects of filmmaking and the 50th edition of the International Film Festival of India honors their contribution with the screening of work of 13 veterans who have left the fraternity.

The homage section of IFFI will showcase some of the National award-winning work of noted filmmakers Mrinal Sen (Bhuvan Shome-1969) and Grish Karnads’s Kannada film Kanooru Heggadithi (1999). The late Assamese actor Biju Khukan’s film Aparoopa directed by Janu Barua is also part of the cinematic treat.

Other groundbreaking work is done in music like the unforgettable songs by veteran music director Khayyam Sahab in Umrao Jaan or the world-class cinematography produced by cinematographer M.J Radhakrishnan in Veyilmarangal and Vijaya Mulay’s short educational animated classic Ek Anek Aur Ekta (1974) are some of the other films selected for the same.

The 50th International Film Festival of India, 2019 will witness over 200 films from 76 countries. With the screening of 26 feature films and 15 non-feature films in Indian panorama section, around 10,000 people and film lovers are expected to attend and participate in the golden jubilee edition. The 2019 Golden Jubilee edition of the International Film Festival of India will take place from the 20th to the 28th of November at Panjim, Goa.

Actor-producer Anil Kapoor’s undying love for cinema is proof of his 41- year career span in which he has delivered several blockbuster performances. Staying relevant by reinventing himself from time to time, the ace actor last featured in Mohit Suri’s Malang in which he was seen playing the role of a fierce cop. Currently, gearing up for his next AK vs AK, Kapoor has been busy dubbing for the film quietly since past many days.

Helmed by Vikramaditya Motwane, film’s story is about a filmmaker who kidnaps the daughter of a popular movie star and then without his knowledge, the former films how he searches his daughter. Being extensively shot in the Dharavi area of Mumbai, film’s shoot schedule is mostly complete.

Spilling beans about the project, a source close to the project informed, “The shoot of the film is more or less complete. The dubbing has been on as the film is slated to get onto a premiere on a digital platform soon. The genre of the film is quite like how the Steve Martin and Edddie Murphy film Bowfinger was. Bowfinger was about a filmmaker Bob Bowfinger who gets Kit Ramsey to unknowingly work in his film. AK Vs AK also has Anurag Kashyap as the filmmaker while Anil Kapoor plays the role of the film star in the movie,”

Recalling how Anil Kapoor has been practicing running and rigorously sweating out at home, the source adds that the actor is doing so to stay in his best shape for the film. The source told, “There are a lot of running and chase sequences in the film which requires Anil to be in top shape and that is one reason that apart from his gym routines, he has also been running hard on the race track for many months,”

Abhishek Bachchan unveils chill-inducing promo for his upcoming series ‘Breathe: Into The Shadows’

This will be his first OTT show and viewers are looking forward to bingeing on it

After the release of the trailer, there has been a lot of anticipation in the air for Amazon Prime Videos’ upcoming series Breathe: Into the shadows. The crime thriller show will see Abhishek Bachchan playing the character of Avinash at the forefront, in his digital debut. Recently, Abhishek Bachchan posted a short promo of the show on his social media.

The promo had a dark sinister vibe to it starting off with the worrisome question of “Where is Siya?”, who is the character of Abhishek Bachchan’s daughter in the show who has been kidnapped. The promo then goes to show the different characters that the show will be revolving around to catch the kidnapper. Abhishek shared the promo with the caption,

‘Sufiyum Sujatayum’ becomes first Malayalam movie to have a direct OTT release

Released on Amazon Prime Video on the 3rd of July; it stars Jayasurya, Aditi Rao Hydari and Dev Mohan

“The Malayalam industry has a huge reach on OTT. I’m excited and very grateful”, says Aditi Rao Hydari about her film ‘Sufiyum Sujatayum’ which was released on Amazon Prime Video. ‘Sufiyum Sujatayum’ was released on Amazon Prime Video on the 3rd of July, 2020, and was the first Malayalam movie to have a direct OTT release. The film garnered love and appreciation from the audience for its musical and magical romantic story it brought to the audience. Like a cherry on top, the film even had some beautiful songs which captured the hearts of the audience and amplified the essence and emotions of the scenes that featured the songs.

Feeling grateful that her film released on Amazon Prime Video where it had a reach in more than 200 countries, in a recent interview, Aditi Rao Hydari shared, “The phenomenal reach the content gets on the day of release and also how it continues even after several days after the release made me think it was actually a blessing. The Malayalam industry has a huge reach on OTT. I’m excited and very grateful.”

The film has a stellar cast of actors Jayasurya as Rajeev, Aditi Rao Hydari as Sujata, and Dev Mohan as Sufi. Aditi Rao Hydari plays the character of the innately mute girl, Sujata who falls in love with her neighbor Sufi, but her father gets her married off to a well-to-do NRI Rajeev, in Dubai.

The film is written and directed by Naranipuzha Shanavas and produced by Vijay Babu under his banner Friday Film House. The film is shot by cinematographer Anu Moothedath and edited by Deepu Joseph. Sufiyum Sujatayum is brought together by executive producer Vinay Babu. Make sure to grab a bowl of popcorn and watch the compelling musical romantic drama!
