The 2019 International Indian Film Academy Awards was to be hosted by Nepal in Kathmandu, but it was never out of controversy as the citizens and political actors were against the same. And last night (July 19) the officials have finally confirmed that they won’t be hosting the awards in the country.

An unsuccessful last effort was made by the two sides to broker a deal to host the Bollywood awards in the country in presence of Nepal Tourism Board and the Visit Nepal 2020 Secretariat who were making a deal with Wizcraft International Entertainment, the event organizer. Deepak Raj Joshi, CEO of the Nepal Tourism Board confirmed the news saying, “Though we have not announced it publicly, the deal has broken down, the organizers are now looking at alternatives like China, Dubai and Mumbai, but we do not know where they will hold the event.”

Suraj Vaidya, the coordinator of the Visit Nepal 2020 Secretariat, blamed the logistics for an unsuccessful deal and said that the event would see around 5,000 guests for which they do not have an adequate building. He added, “We also couldn’t allocate the required 74 business class tickets to Bollywood guests and participants as Nepal Airlines had just 18 business class seats available.”

Meanwhile, sources familiar with developments have revealed that Wizcraft has already started the preparations to host the awards in Mumbai. Stay tuned to CineBlitz for more news and updates on the event.
