Richa Chadha and Farhan Akhtar’s strong message on International Women’s Day is not to be missed

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, a short video has been put together with an impactful message featuring Indian actress Richa Chadha and director-actor Farhan Akhtar to create awareness for equality of women’s rights globally. The video also stars international artists like Ed Sheeran, Mary J Blige, and Dua Lipa. The Circle, which is a global NGO formed by women for women, has taken this initiative in order to spread awareness about the lack of women’s right across all walks of life. The video shows hard-hitting statistics about women’s representation and rights.

Speaking about the video, Richa said in an interview, “I am so excited to be a part of this video. Last year a survey claimed that India is the world’s most unsafe place for women and I was really embarrassed. I was even more disturbed to read in another survey that 42% of women think that being beaten is ok. There needs to be a drastic shift in mindset if we are to progress in a genuine way as a country. To me, it’s empty progress if you have giant skyscrapers but I cannot go home from my office in the same skyscraper using public transport at 9 pm in the night without the fear of assault. And this is true for most parts of India. I am grateful that India finds representation in the video.”

While Richa has always been outspoken about issues concerning women, Farhan, on the other hand, is UN Women’s Goodwill Ambassador for South Asia. He was appointed in 2014 and is the first man ever to hold this position. The 45-year-old has been advocating HeForShe initiative ever since. And now with this video, Farhan and Richa are trying to create awareness about women’s rights. Well, we hope these two stars continue to support such campaigns and do their bit in creating a better world, especially for women.
