Bollywood has given us some memorable transformations in recent times. While makeup has been a huge part of the final characterizations for many years, filmmakers have taken it to the next level by introducing prosthetics into Indian cinema. Prosthetic art has been a huge part of Hollywood with actors experimenting with multiple roles, where additional prosthetic help just elevates the final delivery of the story being told.  While makeup was a huge ally all these years for minor distinctions, now with John Abraham’s multiple looks in RAW (Romeo Akbar Walter) and Deepika Padukone’s look for Chhapaak in which she plays an acid attack victim, the game has changed. From building a set completely through CGI to transforming a person into another with the help of prosthetics, we have come a long way. This change also makes the characters and the story so much more believable with drastic transformations that the script demands. Today, we bring to you the actors who have undergone dramatic transformations with the help of prosthetics in the past.

Amitabh Bachchan in Paa

The 75-year-old had earlier donned prosthetic make-up to look like a 12-year-old boy suffering from a rare genetic disorder called Progeria in the 2009 movie Paa.

Deepika Padukone in Chhapaak

Thanks to prosthetics Deepika looks every bit convincing as acid attack victim and survivor Laxmi Agarwal in her next film Chhaapak. Deepika took to Instagram to share pictures of her new look.

Kamal Haasan in Dashavtaar

Kamal Haasan played 10 distinctive roles in this 2008 release with the help of prosthetics.

Rishi Kapoor in Kapoor & Sons

Playing an ailing old man in Kapoor & Sons, Rishi got some help from Oscar winner American make-up artist Greg Cannom of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Titanic fame, which cost the producer almost Rs. 2 crores. While Rishi played an 80-year-old grandpa in the movie, the look took 5 hours of hard labour every day!

John Abraham in RAW

In the newly released spy thriller RAW, John is seen sporting 15 different disguises all were successfully done with the help of prosthetics by specialist Preetisheel.

Om Puri in Wolf

Back in 1994, late Om Puri starred alongside Hollywood bigwigs Jack Nicholson and Michelle Pfeiffer. Om Puri donned some unique makeup for his role as prosthetics were still in the early stages back then.
